Measurements of Gain Larger than 10 5 at 12 mm in a Self-Amplified Spontaneous-Emission Free-Electron Laser

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported very large output intensities corresponding to a gain larger than 10sup 5 for a single pass free-electron laser operating in the self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) mode at 12 µm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design of the 1 MW, 200 GHz, FOM fusion FEM

TL;DR: In this article, the main components of the free-electron maser, the electron beam line, the undulator and the millimetre-wave system are described, which are optimized with the help of a fully 3D, particle-pusher, FEM simulation code.
Journal ArticleDOI

High energy gain of trapped electrons in a tapered, diffraction-dominated inverse-free-electron laser.

TL;DR: Energy gain of trapped electrons in excess of 20 MeV has been demonstrated in an inverse-free-electron-laser (IFEL) accelerator experiment and the structure in the measured energy spectrum arises because of higher harmonic IFEL interaction in the second half of the undulator.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-power electrostatic free-electron maser as a future source for fusion plasma heating: experiments in the short-pulse regime.

TL;DR: A high-power, frequency-tunable electrostatic free-electron maser, being developed at the FOM Institute for Plasma Physics "Rijnhuizen," shows lasing at various frequencies and the main issues, such as the possibility of high- power, single-mode operation and frequency tuning, have been confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wire method for magnetic field measurements in long undulators

TL;DR: In this article, an effective and simple wire-position detector providing accuracy up to 1 μm was designed and tested, which can be applied to undulators with a length up to several meters.
