Abstract: The target of the study is to assess, in the light of today’s energy production technologies with high efficiency, the actual energetic advantage, in terms of environmental and economic sustainability, of traditional district heating systems for residential use. It was examined a real case study consisting of a residential complex in Milan served by the district heating system of the city. The study was conducted by comparing costs for heating and hot water supplied by district heating with those of alternative potential systems for energy production present on the market today. Two proposals for the replacement of the district heating system with high efficiency heat generators or with heat pumps were evaluated .Therefore, was carried out an evaluation of technical and economic feasibility with particular reference to the payback period, considering interruption of district heating services currently ongoing. Abstract: The dairy industries are characterized by a high demand for electricity, and energy for heating and cooling, necessary for obtaining a finished quality product. The scope of this study is to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of a proposed intervention in the integration of a cogeneration and trigeneration system fueled with natural gas in an existing factory service, located in the north of Italy. The proposed intervention is analyzed in order to allow for the reduction of the overall energy demand of primary energy optimizing the activity management cost. The energy demand of this activity is analyzed below. The design choice are made in terms of energy production and distribution, as well as the economic and financial assessments related to the energy integration of either the cogeneration system or by tri-generation.

Abstract: The data processing centers (CED) are defined today among the areas with the greatest demand for energy for specific use, and for the intrinsic operation of the technological equipment of processing and the data transmission. As a result of the high diffusion of today’s telecommunications systems, the CEDs are increasingly widely disseminated and characterized by logics of operation, such as to ensure a high level of reliability in terms of continuity of service. Objective of the proposed study is to evaluate the reduction of demand energy by cooling, through implementation of air conditioning technologies based on airconditioning systems of free-cooling type. The study compares different operating scenarios in relation to hypothetical operating conditions, in different regions of Italy characterized by different environmental thermo-hygrometric conditions, highlighting the limiting factors in terms of energy demand.

Abstract: During the first outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic the population, focusing primarily on the risk of infection, was generally inattentive to the quality of indoor air. Spain, and the city of Madrid in particular, were among the world's coronavirus hotspots. The country's entire population was subject to a 24/7 lockdown for 45 days. This paper describes a comparative longitudinal survey of air quality in four types of housing in the city of Madrid before and during lockdown. The paper analysed indoor temperatures and variations in CO2, 2.5 μm particulate matter (PM2.5) and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) concentrations before and during lockdown. The mean daily outdoor PM2.5 concentration declined from 11.04 µg/m3 before to 7.10 µg/m3 during lockdown. Before lockdown the NO2 concentration values scored as 'very good' 46% of the time, compared to 90.9% during that period. Although the city's outdoor air quality improved, during lockdown the population's exposure to indoor pollutants was generally more acute and prolonged. Due primarily to concern over domestic energy savings, the lack of suitable ventilation and more intensive use of cleaning products and disinfectants during the covid-19 crisis, indoor pollutant levels were typically higher than compatible with healthy environments. Mean daily PM2.5 concentration rose by approximately 12% and mean TVOC concentration by 37% to 559%. The paper also puts forward a series of recommendations to improve indoor domestic environments in future pandemics and spells out urgent action to be taken around indoor air quality (IAQ) in the event of total or partial quarantining to protect residents from respiratory ailments and concomitantly enhanced susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2, as identified by international medical research.

Abstract: In Turkey, current energy generations are not sufficient for the existing energy needs and besides, energy demand is expected to increase by 4–6 percent annually until 2023. Therefore, the government aims to increase the ratio of renewable energy resources (RES) in total installed capacity to 30 percent by 2023. By this date, total energy investments are expected to be approximately $110 billion. Turkey is the fastest growing energy market among the OECD countries. Therefore, Turkey is an attractive market for energy companies and investors. At this stage, site selection and deciding appropriate RES are the most important feasibility parameters for investment. In this study, “Site Selection in Turkey” issue for RES (solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, biomass) is evaluated by the ELECTRE which is one of the Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. In addition, the reasons for choosing this method are explained according to the literature. The study emphasizes the importance of energy generation from renewable and sustainable sources and is concerned with improving the position of the country. The Turkish government offers many purchasing guarantees and high incentives, especially in the renewable energy sector. As a result of the analysis, the most suitable energy sources are presented according to the geography and energy potential of the regions. The study aims to inform energy firms and everyone related with RES about Turkey’s RES opportunities.

Abstract: The paper is focused on the analysis of the electrical energy sector in the Maltese islands, focusing on the employment of Renewable Energies in order to increase its energy independence. The main renewable source here proposed is wave energy: thanks to its strategic position, Malta will be able to generate electrical energy through the use of an innovative type of Wave Energy Converter (WEC) based on the prototype of linear generator designed and developed by the University of Palermo. This new technology will be able to cut down the electrical energy production from traditional power plants and, consequently, the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Wave energy source and off-shore photovoltaic (PV) technology are proposed here. Particularly, the installation of 18 wave farms, for a total installed capacity of 130 MW, will generate about 5.7% of Malta’s energy requests in 2025, while the installation of 60 MW of off-shore PV will generate about 4.4%.
