This paper investigates the properties of the driving point impedance of general, passive, lossless two-ports without transformers which are terminated in resistance (LC-R networks). The culmination of the work consists of synthesis procedures in two areas. 1) A wide class of impedances Z(p) = [A (p) + B(p)]/[C(p) + D(p)] is characterized in terms of the locations of the zeros of (AC- BD) , where A,C and B,D are even and odd polynomials, respectively. Then a method of realization as an LC-R ladder network is given for members of this class. 2) The even part synthesis problem for an arbitrary, general impedance is solved. The realization takes the forms of a series connection as well as a parallel connection of at most four LC-R ladder networks. A number of examples give concrete form to the theoretical developments.

Inductance, capacitance networks terminated in resistance

In [1], a very neat set of necessary and sufficient conditions for 1-pole admittance functions realizable as an RC 3-terminal network has been given. Reference [2] deals with a more general class of admittance functions which includes a limited class of 2-pole admittance functions. A new class of 2-pole admittance functions which are realizable as series-parallel RC 3-terminal networks is pointed out.

A realizability theorem for two-pole admittance functions

The paper surveys the important developments in circuit theory during the last twenty- five years. Areas covered are: General network analysis and synthesis methods, network topology, passive networks, active networks, digital filters, distributed-parameter networks, nonlinear networks, computer-aided analysis and synthesis methods and large-scale networks.

Circuit Theory: Progress and Trends

Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained that a set of admittance functions having a single finite pole be realizable as an RC three-terminal network. The necessary conditions are more restrictive than the familiar residue and coefficient conditions.
