This paper presents the modeling of wind energy systems using MATLAB Simulink The model considers the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technique to track the maximum power that could be extracted from the wind energy, due the non-linear characteristic of the wind turbine The model consists of wind generation model, converter model (DC-DC converter), and MPPT controller The main contribution of our work is in the model of DC-DC converter (buck converter) which is developed in rather details, which allows the MPPT controller output (duty cycle) adjusts the voltage input of the converter to track the maximum power point of the wind generator The simulation results show that the developed model complies with the theoretical one Further the MPPT control shows a higher power output compared to the system without MPPT

Abstrak Pada makalah ini, sebuah pengendali penjejakan titik maksimum daya (MPPT) untuk sistem pembangkit tenaga surya dimodelkan menggunakan MATLAB Simulink. Model yang dikembangkan dibangun dari modul PV, konverter buck, dan pengendali MPPT. Kontribusi dari makalah ini adalah pada pemodelan konverter buck yang menggunakan pendekatan model persamaan, tidak dengan pendekatan model rangkaian. Model konverter buck yang dikembangkan ini mengijinkan tegangan input konverter, yaitu tegangan keluaran PV, berubah sesuai dengan perubahan siklus kerja, sehingga pada saat terjadi perubahan lingkungan, titik daya maksimum tetap dapat dicapai. Dari hasil percobaan, model yang dikembangkan menghasilkan sifat yang sama dengan model dengan pendekatan rangkaian. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa model yang dikembangkan dapat mengikuti titik daya maksimum menggunakan algoritma Perturb dan Observe. Modeling of Maximum Power Point Tracking Controller for Solar Power System

This paper presents a practical physics-based switching time (turn-on and turn-off time) model of MOSFET in synchronous buck converters. The turn-on and turn-off time of the MOSFET switching element has a strong impact of the operating efficiency of the converter. The proposed model can be implemented in predictive, practical efficiency model of DC/DC converters, like WEBENCH® Power Designer. Unlike the more complex models that exist in literature, the new model needs fewer parameters while still being physics-based. The proposed model simplifies the calculation through linear approximation of the voltage and current waveforms of the high-side FET. Different from other state-of-the-art models, it provides the detailed calculation of each parameter, allowing quick estimation of the switching losses. The model is useful in practical applications where the designer needs to predict the switching performance of the buck converter with the minimum available information of the internal circuit. Experimental results are described in detail to support the accuracy of the analytical model presented.

A practical switching time model for synchronous buck converters

Classical electrical machines such as asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous machines have been widely applied in traction applications and particularly in railway traction. This thesis, however, evaluate the contribution of a special class of synchronous machine called textbf{D}ouble textbf{E}xcitation textbf{S}ynchronous textbf{M}achine (DESM) for the railway traction. Double excitation term indicates that the field flux of the machine is created by two sources: excitation windings and permanent magnets. The degree of freedom provided by the excitation windings provides the opportunity to work on the energy efficiency improvement target. This thesis will try to answer the question whether DESM is more advantageous over classical machines in a specific driving cycle and in addition, in which cases a DESM performs better.Recent studies have merely optimized the individual components, the major drawback of this approach is that the combination of the best individuals does not necessarily form a best system. In order to achieve more realistic results, a multi-physic models taking into account nonlinear characteristic and various disciplines such as electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical and power electronics will be developed.

Design optimization of double excitation synchronous machines in railway traction

In this work a buck converter model for multi- domain simulations is proposed and compared with a state- of-the-art buck converter model. In the proposed model no switching events are calculated. By avoiding the computation of the switching events in power electronic models the processing time of multi-domain simulations can be decreased significantly. The proposed model calculates any operation point of the buck converter in continuous inductor current conduction mode (CICM) while considering the conduction losses and switching losses. It is possible to utilize the proposed modeling approach also for other dc-to-dc converter topologies. Laboratory test results for the validation of the proposed model are included.
