Aatish Patel,Julia Bilinska,Jerry Tam,Dayana Da Silva Fontoura,Claire Y Mason,Anna Daunt,Luke B Snell,J. Shaun Murphy,Jack Potter,Cecilia Tuudah,Rohan Sundramoorthi,Movin Abeywickrema,Caitlin Pley,Vasanth V Naidu,G. Nebbia,Emma Aarons,A Botgros,Sam Douthwaite,Claire van Nispen tot Pannerden,Helen Winslow,Aisling Brown,Daniella Chilton,Achyuta V Nori +22 more
TL;DR: These findings confirm the ongoing unprecedented community transmission of monkeypox virus among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men seen in the UK and many other non-endemic countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Point-of-care serological assays for delayed SARS-CoV-2 case identification among health-care workers in the UK: a prospective multicentre cohort study.
Scott J C Pallett,Scott J C Pallett,Michael Rayment,Aatish Patel,Sophia A M Fitzgerald-Smith,Sarah J Denny,Esmita Charani,Annabelle Mai,Kimberly Gilmour,James Hatcher,Christopher Scott,Paul Randell,Nabeela Mughal,Rachael Jones,Luke S. P. Moore,Luke S. P. Moore,Gary W Davies +16 more
TL;DR: There was variation in test performance between the lateral flow serological assays; however, the Encode assay displayed reasonable IgG sensitivity and specificity among PCR-proven cases and good agreement with the laboratory immunoassay, and seroprevalence across the entire workforce was estimated at 18·0%.
Journal ArticleDOI
New-onset anosmia and ageusia in adult patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Aatish Patel,Esmita Charani,David Ariyanayagam,Ahmed Abdulaal,Sarah J Denny,Nabeela Mughal,Luke S. P. Moore +6 more
TL;DR: Over half of positive patients reported anosmia and ageusia suggesting these should be added to the case definition and guide self-isolation protocols, and this adaptation may be integral to case finding in the absence of population-level testing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic Modeling of COVID-19 Using Artificial Intelligence in the United Kingdom: Model Development and Validation.
TL;DR: This analysis demonstrates an adaptive ANN trained on data at a single site, which demonstrates the early utility of deep learning approaches in a rapidly evolving pandemic with no established or validated prognostic scoring systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgery in the time of Ebola: how events impacted on a single surgical institution in Sierra Leone
TL;DR: In any future epidemic, high level of preparedness, training and protection, in addition to liaison with public health teams early in an epidemic, may allow surgeons to carry out at least some of their duties without the very high levels of personal risk seen here.
