TL;DR: In this paper, the antioxidation activity of 5-substituted 6-methyluracils was quantitatively estimated in the model system of initiated radical-chain oxidation of 1,4-dioxane.
Abstract: The antioxidation activity of 5-substituted 6-methyluracils was quantitatively estimated in the model system of initiated radical-chain oxidation of 1,4-dioxane. The rate constants of the reactions of 1,4-dioxane peroxide radicals with 6-methyluracil (1), 6-methyl-5-piperidinouracil (2), 6-methyl-5-morpholinomethyluracil (3), 6-methyl-5-morpholinouracil (4), 6-methyl-5-methylaminouracil (5), 5-ethylamino-6-methyluracil (6), and 5-hydroxy-6-methyluracil (7) were measured. Among compounds 1–7, derivative 7 is most efficient with an inhibition rate constant of (5.2±0.1) · 104 L mol-1 s-1 (60 °C).

TL;DR: In this paper, the reaction of N-mesyl-6-methyl-2-(1-cyclopenten-1-yl)aniline with Br2 in the presence of NaHCO3 was oxidized into the corresponding cyclopentenone.
Abstract: N-Mesyl-2-(1-methyl-1-butenyl)-6-methylaniline reacted with Br2 to afford N-mesyl-2-(3-bromo-1-penten-2-yl)aniline that under treatment with NH3 or amines underwent cyclization into N-mesyl-7-methyl-3-methylene-2-ethylindoline. The reaction of N-mesyl-2-(1-methyl-1-buten-1-yl)-4-methyl- and 2-(1-methyl-1-buten-1-yl)aniline with Br2 gave rise to the corresponding N-mesyl-2-(2-bromo-1-methyl-1-buten-1-yl)anilines. Under the similar conditions N-tosyl-2-(1-cyclohexen-1-yl)aniline was converted into N-tosyl-2-(6-bromo-1-cyclohexen-1-yl)aniline that under treatment with NH3 furnished N-tosyl-1,2,3,9a-tetrahydrocarbazole. The reaction of N-mesyl-1,2,3,9a-tetrahydrocarbazole with CuBr2 in MeOH afforded N-mesyl-4-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole. N-Mesyl-6-methyl-2-(1-cyclopenten-1-yl)aniline in reaction with Br2 in the presence of NaHCO3 was oxidized into the corresponding cyclopentenone, and with NBS it gave N-mesyl-2-(2-bromo-1-cyclopenten-1-yl)aniline.

TL;DR: In this article, a polymer based on 2-(1-methyl-2-buten-1-yl)aniline has been synthesized and characterized for the first time, which determines the prospects for its use as a donor in the active layer when designing organic solar cells.
Abstract: Soluble electron-donor conducting (co)polymers based on functionalized monomeric anilines have been synthesized and characterized for the first time. It has been shown that there is a good correlation between the results obtained from investigations of the electrochemical properties of polyaniline derivatives by the methods of cyclic voltammetry and on the basis of the temperature dependence of the electrical conductance. The polymer based on 2-(1-methyl-2-buten-1-yl)aniline has the lowest energy level of the highest occupied molecular orbital, which determines the prospects for its use as a donor in the active layer when designing organic solar cells.

TL;DR: The mutual orientation of the oxirane and nitrogen-containing rings in the epoxides derived from cyclopenta[b]-indoles was proved by X-ray analysis as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: N-Acyl-2-(cyclohex-2-en-1-yl)anilines react with molecular iodine to give the corresponding N-acyl-1-iodo-1,2,3,4,4a,9a-hexahydrocarbazoles which undergo isomerization into 1-R-2a,3,4,5,5a,10a-hexahydro[1,3]oxazolo[5,4,3-j,k]carbazol-10-ium iodides; no isomerization occurs with N-acetyl-3-iodo1,2,3,3a,4,8b-hexahydrocyclopenta[b]indole. The reaction of N-p-tolylsulfonyl-3,4,4a,9a-tetrahydrocarbazoles with hydrogen peroxide leads to the formation of a single 1,2-epoxy derivative with trans orientation of the nitrogen-and oxygen-containing rings. N-p-Tolylsulfonyl-1,3a,4,8b-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]indoles give rise to the corresponding 2,3-epoxy derivatives with both trans and cis orientation of the dihydropyrrole and oxirane fragments. The resulting epoxides undergo trans-opening with formation of N-p-tolylsulfonyl-1-hydroxy-2-methoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,9a-hexahydrocarbazoles and N-p-tolylsulfonyl-3-hydroxy-2-methoxy-1,2,3,3a,4,8b-hexahydrocyclopenta[b]indoles on heating in methanol in the presence of KU-2 cation exchanger. Mutual orientation of the oxirane and nitrogen-containing rings in the epoxides derived from cyclopenta[b]-indoles was proved by X-ray analysis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the unpolarized absorption and circular dichroism spectra of the fundamental vibrational transitions of the chiral molecule, 4-methyl-2-oxetanone, are calculated ab initio using DFT, MP2, and SCF methodologies and a 5S4P2D/3S2P (TZ2P) basis set.
Abstract: : The unpolarized absorption and circular dichroism spectra of the fundamental vibrational transitions of the chiral molecule, 4-methyl-2-oxetanone, are calculated ab initio. Harmonic force fields are obtained using Density Functional Theory (DFT), MP2, and SCF methodologies and a 5S4P2D/3S2P (TZ2P) basis set. DFT calculations use the Local Spin Density Approximation (LSDA), BLYP, and Becke3LYP (B3LYP) density functionals. Mid-IR spectra predicted using LSDA, BLYP, and B3LYP force fields are of significantly different quality, the B3LYP force field yielding spectra in clearly superior, and overall excellent, agreement with experiment. The MP2 force field yields spectra in slightly worse agreement with experiment than the B3LYP force field. The SCF force field yields spectra in poor agreement with experiment. The basis set dependence of B3LYP force fields is also explored: the 6-31G* and TZ2P basis sets give very similar results while the 3-21G basis set yields spectra in substantially worse agreements with experiment. jg

TL;DR: The use of bromine and different bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis is outlined and the scope of these reagents for various organic transformations such as bromination, cohalogenation, oxidation, cyclization, ring-opening reactions, substitution, rearrangement, hydrolysis, catalysis, etc is described briefly.
Abstract: Bromination is one of the most important transformations in organic synthesis and can be carried out using bromine and many other bromo compounds. Use of molecular bromine in organic synthesis is well-known. However, due to the hazardous nature of bromine, enormous growth has been witnessed in the past several decades for the development of solid bromine carriers. This review outlines the use of bromine and different bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis. The applications of bromine, a total of 107 bromo-organic compounds, 11 other brominating agents, and a few natural bromine sources were incorporated. The scope of these reagents for various organic transformations such as bromination, cohalogenation, oxidation, cyclization, ring-opening reactions, substitution, rearrangement, hydrolysis, catalysis, etc. has been described briefly to highlight important aspects of the bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis.
