TL;DR: Dirty Dozen is known to be the simplest technique to measure human error, it is significantly appropriate to be applied as this experiment’s variable, especially for students who are still studying and have no industrial working experiences.
Abstract: Following a recently-submitted review on a few human factor identification models (interpretations of Professor Edwards’ SHELL Model, Boeing’s Maintenance Error Decision Aid (MEDA), Professor Reason’s Swiss Cheese Model, and Dupont’s Dirty Dozen), researchers have unanimously agreed on choosing the Dirty Dozen model for this quantitative study before its official implementation in hangars and workshops at Universiti Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT). This study measures the levels of awareness and effectiveness of UniKL MIAT’s current human factor safety practices. A specifically-tailored, comprehensive, Dirty Dozen checklist is produced and distributed as survey questionnaire to 120 UniKL MIAT’s students. Data from all 48 questions related to all 12 domains of Dirty Dozen are analyzed. The results shows that out of all 12 domains, six (Lack of communication, Lack of teamwork, Norm, Pressure, Lack of attention, Stress) are marked with “Agreed” and the other half (Complacency, Lack of knowledge, Lack of resources, Distraction, Lack of authority, Exhaustion) are marked as “Not Sure” in terms of awareness and effectiveness of their current human factor’s safety practices. These results will be reviewed by the top management of the university to take preventive actions and improvements for future human factor safety implementations. As Dirty Dozen is known to be the simplest technique to measure human error, it is significantly appropriate to be applied as this experiment’s variable, especially for students who are still studying and have no industrial working experiences.

TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of human factors in aviation maintenance remains a critical area of research given the safety implications of human error, and the role of decision-making is often overlooked.
Abstract: The presence of human factors in aviation remains a critical area of research given the safety implications of human error. Understanding what specific factors contribute to human error allows managers and operators to take steps to mitigate these hazards. Several methods have been tested in the cockpit and cabin crew environments, but less attention has been given to the aviation maintenance sector, despite the prevalence of accidents resulting from human error. With the introduction of AC-172A, the FAA validated the need for additional research and training on the role of human factors in aviation maintenance errors. However, a key component in this process is often overlooked--the role of decision-making. In aviation maintenance, the environment can change rapidly. Technicians must react and adjust their behavior, and their decision-making abilities, accordingly. Human factors such as fatigue, pressure, and distractions can interrupt cognitive processes and judgment, and in turn, decision-making. As technicians adapt to these environmental challenges, strategies must be in place to facilitate optimal decision-making. Recommendations for addressing the presence of human factors in aviation maintenance and the resulting impact on the decision-making process include taking both a proactive and reactive approach to human error identification. Proactively screening for individuals who are too risk-averse or too comfortable with taking risks can help hiring managers employ the right personnel equipped to make appropriate decisions in high consequence industries, such as aviation. Additionally, by encouraging and reviewing hazard reports, steps can be taken to mitigate human error factors in the future. Anonymous hazard reporting tools such as the REPAIRER allow maintenance managers to leverage existing (and FAA-required) safety management systems (SMS) by including a human factors analysis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the case of Turkish Eskisehir Technical University (ESTU) ATO, an outstanding organization, which provides superior services to trainees.
Abstract: Approved training organizations (ATOs) have a significant role in the aviation industry. Τhese organizations should efficiently handle a high level of risk, implementing an efficient risk management system, in line with the adoption of a supportive organizational structure. These two concepts are related and their appropriate implementation can lead to the operation’s optimization in specific ATO. The examination of this relationship consists of the main objective of the current study. International and national regulations influence ATO's operation in a high degree. The study examined the case of Turkish Eskisehir’s Technical University (ESTU) ATO, an outstanding organization, which provides superior services to trainees. All the School employees participated in the current study (n = 18). In-depth interviews, access to relevant documents and one-day workshops were conducted focusing on the examined issues. Significant and useful outcomes were generated. A risk framework that indicates how the ESTU ATO handles the risk and an organizational structure with specific positions and duties were proposed, and the linkage of both concepts facilitates the efficient handling of risk. The current study contributes to aviation business management, strategy literature and the ATO efficient operation.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the regional economic potentials in the development of superior markets of a nation and determined the selection of one of the district's superior products, which can be used as leverage in stimulating regions for development.
Abstract: Purpose of Study: One important aspect in regional development planning is to grow regional economies. It is expected to be a leverage and and attract other sectors to move and grow well. To develop the local economy, there are several things to be used as basis for regional development. The present aims to analyze the regional economic potentials in the development of superior markets of a nation. Methodology: Exploratory research method is used in the present study to obtain more in-depth results that can be developed according to the outcomes of the analysis. It has been carried out by determining the selection of one of the district's superior products. By using the endogenous development strategy paradigm and integrating endowment factors with human resources capabilities, the development and growth of Bondowoso Regency will be more directed, clear, measurable and targeted. In an effort to realize the development of new economic growth centers in undeveloped areas, determining superior products is very important. Furthermore, by encouraging the development of the specific potential of underdeveloped regions, it is expected to be able to encourage and accelerate economic growth and improve community welfare. so that this builds a new center for economic growth. In general, the flagship program of each district is used as leverage in stimulating regions for development. Notably, there are six parameters left behind. These include the community economy, human resources, infrastructure (infrastructure), local financial capacity (fiscal gap), accessibility, and regional characteristics. It is expected that poverty alleviation and unemployment reduction can be achieved through an increase in the local financial capacity through optimization of the potential of local products. The development of district superior product programs in growth node will be beneficial in encouraging the economic growth of the community. Main Findings: The results of this study shortlisted some superior agricultural products in the regency with a corn LQ value of 3.86, 4.28 rice; chili 2.37; and cassava 3.92. The coconut plantation 1.89; betel 1.59 and sugar cane 3.31. For the livestock sector, the LQ of Cattle was 3.91; Goat 3.02 and free-range chicken 2.98. From the results of the discussion and in-depth analysis, the flagship products of Bondowoso district were rice, sugar cane, cattle and corn. Implications/Applications: The present research is expected to establish local products that represent regional superior commodities and can be produced to improve the economy of the community. Such development will also provide job opportunities for the local communities and reduce the rate of poverty. Furthermore, it provides avenues for channeling government funding in terms of aid to provide an impetus for stimulating growth and jobs.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined how problem-based learning (PBL) is adapted in an online teaching medium using Microsoft Teams and then utilized in Aviation English classrooms at a Malaysian aviation-based technical institution with the purpose of testing for any discernible effect.
Abstract: : The purpose of this study is to examine how problem-based learning (PBL) is adapted in an online teaching medium using Microsoft Teams and then utilized in Aviation English classrooms at a Malaysian aviation-based technical institution with the purpose of testing for any discernible effect. Using Microsoft Teams, lecturers guided final-year Aircraft Maintenance undergraduates into self-directed study and peer instruction for five consecutive weeks. A study was performed to determine the influence of online PBL instruction on learners’ exam results. The paired sign test was used to analyze the non-normal data in SPSS—the mixed results showed that additional studies should be carried out for additional areas of study/curricula when pursuing PBL-Institute prestige in order to enhance the online PBL implementation processes and choose the most appropriate online PBL framework for each area of study.
