Bright Coherent Ultrahigh Harmonics in the keV X-ray Regime from Mid-Infrared Femtosecond Lasers
Tenio Popmintchev,Ming-Chang Chen,Dimitar Popmintchev,Paul Arpin,Susannah Brown,Skirmantas Alisauskas,Giedrius Andriukaitis,Tadas Balciunas,Oliver D. Mücke,Audrius Pugzlys,Andrius Baltuška,Bonggu Shim,Samuel E. Schrauth,Alexander L. Gaeta,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Luis Plaja,Andreas Becker,Agnieszka Jaron-Becker,Margaret M. Murnane,Henry C. Kapteyn +19 more
TL;DR: By guiding a mid-infrared femtosecond laser in a high-pressure gas, ultrahigh harmonics can be generated that emerge as a bright supercontinuum that spans the entire electromagnetic spectrum from the ultraviolet to more than 1.6 kilo–electron volts, allowing, in principle, the generation of pulses as short as 2.5 attoseconds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bright circularly polarized soft x-ray high harmonics for x-ray magnetic circular dichroism
Tingting Fan,Patrik Gychtol,Ronny Knut,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Daniel D. Hickstein,Christian Gentry,Craig W. Hogle,Dmitriy Zusin,Kevin M. Dorney,Oleg Shpyrko,Oren Cohen,Ofer Kfir,Luis Plaja,Andreas Becker,Agnieszka Jaron-Becker,Margaret M. Murnane,Henry C. Kapteyn,Tenio Popmintchev +17 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates the feasibility of manipulating the polarization, spectrum, and temporal shape of high harmonics in the soft X-ray region by manipulating the driving laser waveform and explains the single-atom and macroscopic physics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-collinear generation of angularly isolated circularly polarized high harmonics
Daniel D. Hickstein,Franklin Dollar,Patrik Grychtol,Jennifer L. Ellis,Ronny Knut,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Dmitriy Zusin,Christian Gentry,Justin M. Shaw,Tingting Fan,Kevin M. Dorney,Andreas Becker,Agnieszka Jaron-Becker,Henry C. Kapteyn,Margaret M. Murnane,Charles G. Durfee,Charles G. Durfee +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first implementation of non-collinear high harmonic generation with circularly polarized driving lasers was presented. And the authors showed that the non-Collinear mixing enables the generation of isolated attosecond pulses with circular polarization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultraviolet surprise: Efficient soft x-ray high-harmonic generation in multiply ionized plasmas
Dimitar Popmintchev,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Franklin Dollar,Christopher A. Mancuso,Jose A. Pérez-Hernández,Ming-Chang Chen,Amelia Hankla,Xiaohui Gao,Bonggu Shim,Alexander L. Gaeta,Maryam Tarazkar,Dmitri Romanov,Robert J. Levis,Jim Gaffney,Mark Foord,Stephen B. Libby,Agnieszka Jaron-Becker,Andreas Becker,Luis Plaja,Margaret M. Murnane,Henry C. Kapteyn,Tenio Popmintchev +22 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly, the high ultraviolet refractive indices of both neutral atoms and ions enabled effective phase matching, even in a multiply ionized plasma, which could presage a more generally efficient means of creating x-ray pulses for fundamental dynamics studies as well as technological applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zeptosecond high harmonic keV x-ray waveforms driven by midinfrared laser pulses.
Carlos Hernandez-Garcia,Jose Antonio Pérez-Hernández,Tenio Popmintchev,Margaret M. Murnane,Henry C. Kapteyn,Agnieszka Jaron-Becker,Andreas Becker,Luis Plaja +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that, although the total width of the x-ray bursts spans femtosecond time scales, the pulse exhibits a zeptosecond structure due to the interference of high harmonic emission from multiple reencounters of the electron wave packet with the ion.
