TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated if companies operating in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria practice environmental accounting to the extent of inclusion of environmental friendly policies, and if so, how this affects the profitability of these companies.
Abstract: Environmental friendly policies are those policies which are concerned with the environmental protection processes and further ensure that there is a logical determination of the costs of environmental degradation due to industrial activities, and internalize them in corporate accounts to the extent possible. This study was carried out on the environmental friendly policies and their financial effects on corporate performance of selected oil and gas companies in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. It was aimed at investigating if companies operating in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria practice environmental accounting to the extent of inclusion of environmental friendly policies, and if so, how this affects the profitability of these companies. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Thereafter, the data were analyzed using simple ordinary least square regression method and the study hypothesis was also validated. It was revealed that the cost of ensuring environmental friendly policies as well as firm competitiveness have significant relationship with the firms’ profitability (Corporate performance). Thus it was concluded that the related cost of environmental protection and management positively influences a firm’s profitability; and environmental friendly organization enjoy high level of corporate competitiveness resulting in high performance. The study therefore recommended that firms should formulate and implement environmental friendly policies to enhance their competitiveness, acceptability and stability, which would subsequently result in high performance. Keyword: Environmental friendly policies, corporate performance, environmental accounting practice, positive accounting theory.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was carried out to evaluate Inflation accounting and control through monetary policy measures in Nigeria from 1973 to 2010, where aggregate data on independent variables (monetary policy measures) that affect inflation were collected and analyzed using multiple regression model and the ordinary least squares estimation techniques.
Abstract: This study was carried out to evaluate Inflation accounting and control through monetary policy measures in Nigeria from 1973 to 2010. Secondary data were used empirically to do the assessment. Aggregate data on independent variables (monetary policy measures) that affect inflation were collected and analyzed using multiple regression model and the ordinary least squares estimation techniques. From the analysis carried out, it was found that some of the variables (money supply, interest rate and exchange rate) were statistically significant, which means that the studied variable could be used to predict inflation. Furthermore, domestic credit was not statistically significant, even though it could be used as a policy variable to account for inflation. Based on these findings, it was recommended that monetary supply, interest rates and exchange rates should be the principal policy variables to be manipulated in controlling inflation in Nigeria. I. Background of the study Inflation is a serious macroeconomic problem and it is an aspect of macroeconomic instability. It can make a comparison of economic conditions at different point in time quite difficult, creates complications for economic measurement, and brings uncertainty when we try to look into the future. Inflation is a substantial and sustained increase in general price level leading to disequilibrium thus undermining the ability of money to serve as a tool for market coordination. In Nigeria, monetary policy measures are used to control inflation and other macro-economic variables in order to ensure economic stability. Monetary policy involves measures designed to regulate and control the volume, cost, availability and direction of money and credit in an economy to achieve some specific macroeconomic policy objectives (Anyanwu, and Oackhenan, 1995).

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of financial accounting standards on financial reporting and practices of modern business organizations in Nigeria were examined using Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient and chi-square statistical tool.
Abstract: This study focused on the effects of financial accounting standards on financial reporting and practices of modern business organizations in Nigeria. It discussed extensively the objectives, impacts, approaches and processes leading to standard setting and financial reporting. It also discussed some arguments in favour and against financial accounting standards. The study looked at critical issues in standard setting as well as the application of accounting standards in financial reporting and practices. Both quantitative and qualitative survey methods were used to obtain relevant data for the study. These data were analyzed using Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient to test the relationship between accounting standards and financial reporting and practices of business organizations in Nigeria. The result showed a high and positive level of correlation. The chi-square statistical tool was also used to test the cost implication of adhering to accounting standards. The result showed that there is a significant level of cost associated with the application of financial accounting standards in financial reporting and practices. Suggestions were made that standard setter should state the limit to which the public contribute to the standard setting while looking at the peculiarities of individual enterprise as this will prevent the watering down of standards through the exposure draft. Finally, that Financial Accounting Standard Board should state the cost/benefit of adhering to financial standards in financial reporting particularly in terms of the disclosure of intangible assets as this will build the confidence of the financial reporters .and users of financial reports. Keywords: Financial Accounting Standards, Financial Reporting, Exposure Draft, Free-market Approach, Regulatory Approach, National Accounting Standard Board.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the correlation and differential influence of historical cost and current cost profits on the operating capabilities of the firm and found that there is a correlation which is materially significant between profits and operating ability.
Abstract: The study investigated the correlation and differential influence of historical cost and current cost profits on the operating capabilities of the firm. The financial statements of thirty-one Nigerian Companies were surveyed and adjusted for effects of price changes using the Consumers’ Price Index (CPI). Correlation influence between the historical cost profits on the operating ability of the firm was measured and established on one hand and that of current cost profit on the other hand. Differential impacts of the method of profit measurement on the operating capability of the firm was equally measured and established. The weighted value of students’ distribution – t, HC reveals a correlation which is materially significant between profits and operating ability of the firm. Equally, the F-test result reveals substantial differential impacts of profits measured on historical and current cost bases on the operating ability of the firm during periods of rising prices. Companies interested in maintaining equal operational strength during periods of changing prices are to adopt appropriate basis of profit measurements commensurating the impacts of price changes for the sustenance and survival of the firm.

Abstract: It is widely accepted that, for some industries, competition across countries is" economically important and that this competition is strongly affected by exchange rate changes." This paper explores the validity of this view using weekly stock return data on 320 industry pairs" in six countries from 1975 to 1997. It is found that common shocks to industries across countries" are more important than competitive shocks. Weekly exchange rate shocks explain almost" nothing of the relative performance of industries. Using returns measured over longer horizons the importance of exchange rate shocks increases slightly and the importance of common shocks" to industries increases more substantially. Both industry and exchange rate shocks are more" important for industries that produce goods traded internationally, but the importance of these" shocks is economically small for these industries as well.

Abstract: The competence in problem determination, problem analysis, proposing and mapping several candidate solutions up to selecting the appropriate confirmation approach is important for establishing scientific character since undergraduate program in the University. Scientific character couldn't be obtained in instant, gradual understanding in basic of critical thinking and the way to conclude, even more to believe in something also requires appropriate scientific way of thinking. Concerning this responsibility, it is important to introduce the principle and basic concept of the nature in research activity since the beginning of the undergraduate program.
