Journal ArticleDOI
Aerosol Health Effects from Molecular to Global Scales
Manabu Shiraiwa,Kayo Ueda,Andrea Pozzer,Gerhard Lammel,Christopher J. Kampf,Akihiro Fushimi,Shinichi Enami,Andrea M. Arangio,Janine Fröhlich-Nowoisky,Yuji Fujitani,Akiko Furuyama,Pascale S. J. Lakey,Jos Lelieveld,Kurt Lucas,Yu Morino,Ulrich Pöschl,Satoshi Takahama,Akinori Takami,Haijie Tong,Bettina Weber,Ayako Yoshino,Kei Sato +21 more
TL;DR: The role of distinct PM components in health impacts and mortality needs to be clarified by integrated research on various spatiotemporal scales for better evaluation and mitigation of aerosol effects on public health in the Anthropocene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry and simultaneous nitrogen phosphorous and mass spectrometric detection for characterization of nanoparticles in roadside atmosphere
Nobuo Ochiai,Teruyo Ieda,Kikuo Sasamoto,Akihiro Fushimi,Shuichi Hasegawa,Kiyoshi Tanabe,Shinji Kobayashi +6 more
TL;DR: The method showed good linearity (r2>0.988) and high sensitivity (limit of quantification: <10 pg) for most of the target PAHs and the concentration ofPAHs per particulate matter (PM) mass in nanoparticles was considerably higher than those of larger size of particles with a diameter of >102 nm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stir bar sorptive extraction and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry for ultra-trace analysis of organochlorine pesticides in river water.
Nobuo Ochiai,Teruyo Ieda,Kikuo Sasamoto,Yoshikatsu Takazawa,Shunji Hashimoto,Akihiro Fushimi,Kiyoshi Tanabe +6 more
TL;DR: The method was successfully applied to the determination of 16 OCPs at pg L (-1) to ng L(-1) in river water and the results agree fairly well with the values obtained by a conventional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE)-GC-HRMS (selected ion monitoring: SIM) method using large sample volume.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trace gas and particle emissions from open burning of three cereal crop residues: Increase in residue moistness enhances emissions of carbon monoxide, methane, and particulate organic carbon
Kentaro Hayashi,Keisuke Ono,Masako Kajiura,Shigeto Sudo,Seiichiro Yonemura,Akihiro Fushimi,Katsumi Saitoh,Yuji Fujitani,Kiyoshi Tanabe +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of moisture content on the emission factors for open burning of straw of rice, wheat, and barley, as well as rice husks, were determined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical characterization and toxicity of particulate matter emissions from roadside trash combustion in urban India
Heidi Vreeland,James J. Schauer,Armistead G. Russell,Julian D. Marshall,Akihiro Fushimi,Akihiro Fushimi,Grishma Jain,Karthik Sethuraman,Vishal Verma,S. N. Tripathi,Michael H. Bergin +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the characteristics and redox activity of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) associated with roadside trash burning in Bangalore, India, and showed high variability of chemical composition and toxicity between trash-burning emissions, and characteristic differences from ambient samples.
