Journal ArticleDOI

Site-specific cleavage of DNA by E. coli DNA gyrase.

TL;DR: Analysis of cleavage fragments showed that cutting between a TG doublet is common to most, or all, gyrase cleavages, and this diverse recognition sequence with common elements is a pattern shared with several other specific nucleic acid-protein interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction between DNA gyrase and its cleavage site on DNA.

TL;DR: It is concluded that gyrase remains stationarily bound at the discrete locations where it cleaves the DNA and that ATP changes the conformational state of the enzyme, thus altering the proportion of bound gyrases that cleaves.
Book ChapterDOI

Mechanisms of dna topoisomerases

TL;DR: The ability of E. coli omega protein to catenate duplex DNA rings suggests a unified mechanism for topoisomerases, analogous to the action of gyrase on double-stranded DNA.
