Schwartz,Leslie G. Ford,Charles A. Coltman +24 more
TL;DR: The design problems the SELECT investigators had to resolve in developing the trial, including the role of prostate cancer screening, the best forms and doses of the study agents, and estimation of the event (prostate cancer) rate of men on the placebo arm are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The association of body mass index and prostate-specific antigen in a population-based study.
Jacques Baillargeon,Brad H. Pollock,Alan R. Kristal,Patrick T. Bradshaw,Javier Hernandez,Joseph W. Basler,Betsy Higgins,Steve Lynch,Thomas A. Rozanski,Dean A. Troyer,Ian M. Thompson +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that obesity may be associated with more advanced‐stage disease and lower overall survival rates and one possible link between body mass index (BMI) and prostate carcinoma prognosis may be disease ascertainment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic Inflammation in Benign Prostate Tissue Is Associated with High-Grade Prostate Cancer in the Placebo Arm of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial
Bora Gurel,M. Scott Lucia,Ian M. Thompson,Phyllis J. Goodman,Catherine M. Tangen,Alan R. Kristal,Howard L. Parnes,Ashraful Hoque,Scott M. Lippman,Siobhan Sutcliffe,Sarah B. Peskoe,Charles G. Drake,William G. Nelson,Angelo M. De Marzo,Elizabeth A. Platz +14 more
TL;DR: Inflammation, most of which was chronic, was common in benign prostate tissue, and was positively associated with prostate cancer, especially high grade, and suggests an avenue for prevention by mitigating intraprostatic inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
