TL;DR: This article proposes to compare the "Framework for the evaluation of natural resource management systems incorporating sustainability indicators" (MESMIS) and the framework "Evaluation of agroecosystems through sustainability indicators", looking for similarities and differences between them, in order to highlight their advantages and limitations.
Abstract: The formulation of the concept of sustainability indicates the need to consider in a integral and global way the productive processes, as well as, the obtaining of sustainability measures. In this way lists of indicators and characteristics that they should have were made. Concepts, criteria and methodologies were then proposed to select / derive / build indicators that define the sustainability indexes or that were part of different sustainability evaluation frameworks. In Latin America, systems have been developed to evaluate agroecosystems with an unequal degree of conceptualization and rigor, and also with different criteria. Since these systems have been fairly analyzed in their conceptual phase as well as in their applied phase, in this article we propose to compare the "Framework for the evaluation of natural resource management systems incorporating sustainability indicators" (MESMIS) and the framework "Evaluation of agroecosystems through sustainability indicators", looking for similarities and differences between them, in order to highlight their advantages and limitations. As a general conclusion it is stated that none of the two frameworks presents in general, overcoming characteristics. However, the systemic approach present in the MESMIS framework gives it greater heuristic power.

Abstract: The work compares three methodological proposals of agroecosystems evaluation in terms of sustainability which seek to overcome the reductionism of classical onesproposed by economic discipline. A bibliographic review was made in the main search engines, identifying three methodological proposals widely spread (Methodology for the Evaluation of Management Systems incorporating Sustainability Indicators: MESMIS, Rapid Agroecological System for the Evaluation of Soil Quality and Crop Health: SARSyC and Agroecosystem Assessment Through EAMIS Sustainability Indicators: EAMIS), developed in Latin America and the exploration was complemented by the search of representative articles of them. The proposals with their respective application cases were evaluated using temporal, scalar, conceptual criteria, etc. and similarities and differences were identified in them. We conclude that although the similarities between the proposals predominate, the conceptual approach and participation are elements of strong distinction between the MESMIS and the other proposals. On the other hand, SARSyC is distinguished by addressing only environmental aspects of agroecosystems.

Abstract: In this paper, I show the experience obtained in Mexico and Latin America from the application of the Methodological Framework for the Evaluation of Management Systems with Sustainability lndicators between 1999 and 2005. These are diverse efforts to increase and evaluare the sustainability of agro ecosystems under various conditions, with different constraints and results; in sorne cases, these include the comparison of contrasting systems and, in others, the changes obtained for the same system under alternative ways of management. All the cases are attempts to make operative the concept of sustainability applied to sustainable development, specifically supported over the experience of evaluating agro ecosystems under the conditions of the Latin American countries.

Abstract: The agroecosystem (AES) is a concept to identify a unit of study at different hierarchical levels of primary production systems that sets the management of man for adaptation, modification and interaction with natural resources for food production and services requiring by society. This essay aims to make a reflection about the theories-approaches bases on the concept of agro-ecosystem from a dialectical approach and propose to use it to understand the agriculture.
