TL;DR: Management of mucormycosis depends on recognising disease patterns and on early diagnosis, and limited availability of contemporary treatments burdens patients in low and middle income settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frequency and Evolution of Azole Resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus Associated with Treatment Failure
Susan J. Howard,Dasa Cerar,Michael J. Anderson,Ahmed Albarrag,Matthew C. Fisher,Alessandro C. Pasqualotto,Michel Laverdière,Maiken Cavling Arendrup,David S. Perlin,David W. Denning,David W. Denning +10 more
TL;DR: An increase in the frequency of azole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus has emerged and it is feared that this phenomenon may be linked to the spread of E.coli.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspergillus flavus: human pathogen, allergen and mycotoxin producer.
TL;DR: Aspergillus flavus is the second leading cause of invasive aspergillosis and it is the most common cause of superficial infection, and experimental invasive infections in mice show A. flavus to be 100-fold more virulent than A. fumigatus in terms of inoculum required.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective multicenter international surveillance of azole resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus.
J.W.M. van der Linden,Maiken Cavling Arendrup,Adilia Warris,Katrien Lagrou,H Pelloux,Philippe M. Hauser,Erja Chryssanthou,Emilia Mellado,Sarah E. TL;DR: Azole-resistant A. fumigatus was more frequently found than previously acknowledged, causing resistant invasive and noninvasive aspergillosis and severely compromising clinical use of azoles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polymorphisms in Toll-Like Receptor Genes and Susceptibility to Pulmonary Aspergillosis
Agostinho Carvalho,Alessandro C. Pasqualotto,Lucia Pitzurra,Luigina Romani,David W. Denning,Fernando Rodrigues +5 more
TL;DR: Findings reinforce the importance of innate immunity in the pathogenesis of different forms of aspergillosis in patients with severe asthma with fungal sensitization.
