TL;DR: The authors offer a practical solution for the development of a tracking and traceability system within the meat industry that is capable of identifying and handling a product and the information attached to it throughout the production process to retail packs.
Abstract: The meat industry is seeking to establish reassurance on traceability and production techniques that may help to promote confidence in the integrity and origin of their products. This paper reviews research and development activities for traceability and trackability in the meat industry. Achievements of individuals and research groups developing tools and techniques to improve the production process in handling and cutting meat portions for end users are discussed. In addition software/hardware, logistics and technical requirements for tracking material in a production process are introduced. With the aid of such established tools and techniques coupled with novel proposals, the authors offer a practical solution for the development of a tracking and traceability system within the meat industry. The proposed prototype system is capable of identifying and handling a product and the information attached to it throughout the production process to retail packs.

TL;DR: In this paper, an empirical study using questionnaires with a focus on service enquiring about the performance of service key attributes and overall customer satisfaction was conducted, and the data were fed into the Kano customer satisfaction model and the importance-performance analysis (IPA) method for analysis and comparison.
Abstract: Purpose – Customer relationship management (CRM) strategies rely heavily on the importance and performance of the attributes that define a service. The aim of this paper is first to investigate the asymmetric relationship between performance of service attributes and customer satisfaction, and second, through a case study in the mobile telecommunication industry to prove that the importance of a service attribute is a function of the performance of that attribute.Design/methodology/approach – An empirical study using questionnaires with a focus on service enquiring about the performance of service key attributes and overall customer satisfaction was conducted. The data were fed into the Kano customer satisfaction model and the importance‐performance analysis (IPA) method for analysis and comparison.Findings – The results indicate that there is a dynamic relationship between service attributes and overall customer satisfaction. Service attributes have a different impact on customer satisfaction regardless ...

TL;DR: The defects of the commonly inspected electronic components, such as semiconductor wafers, flat panel displays, printed circuit boards and light emitting diodes, are first explained and inspection algorithms used for detecting the defects in the electronic components are discussed.
Abstract: Electronics industry is one of the fastest evolving, innovative, and most competitive industries. In order to meet the high consumption demands on electronics components, quality standards of the products must be well-maintained. Automatic optical inspection (AOI) is one of the non-destructive techniques used in quality inspection of various products. This technique is considered robust and can replace human inspectors who are subjected to dull and fatigue in performing inspection tasks. A fully automated optical inspection system consists of hardware and software setups. Hardware setup include image sensor and illumination settings and is responsible to acquire the digital image, while the software part implements an inspection algorithm to extract the features of the acquired images and classify them into defected and non-defected based on the user requirements. A sorting mechanism can be used to separate the defective products from the good ones. This article provides a comprehensive review of the various AOI systems used in electronics, micro-electronics, and opto-electronics industries. In this review the defects of the commonly inspected electronic components, such as semiconductor wafers, flat panel displays, printed circuit boards and light emitting diodes, are first explained. Hardware setups used in acquiring images are then discussed in terms of the camera and lighting source selection and configuration. The inspection algorithms used for detecting the defects in the electronic components are discussed in terms of the preprocessing, feature extraction and classification tools used for this purpose. Recent articles that used deep learning algorithms are also reviewed. The article concludes by highlighting the current trends and possible future research directions.

TL;DR: In this article, the Quadrature Method of Moments (QMOM) is used for representing droplet size distributions present in low-pressure steam turbine stages, and it is shown that the QMOM method is robust for representing a polydispersed distribution with sizes several orders of magnitude apart and originating from separate condensation phenomena.

TL;DR: Deming's theory of management based on the 14 Points for Management is described in Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982 as mentioned in this paper, where he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.
Abstract: According to W. Edwards Deming, American companies require nothing less than a transformation of management style and of governmental relations with industry. In Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982, Deming offers a theory of management based on his famous 14 Points for Management. Management's failure to plan for the future, he claims, brings about loss of market, which brings about loss of jobs. Management must be judged not only by the quarterly dividend, but by innovative plans to stay in business, protect investment, ensure future dividends, and provide more jobs through improved product and service. In simple, direct language, he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.

TL;DR: The 2008 crash has left all the established economic doctrines - equilibrium models, real business cycles, disequilibria models - in disarray as discussed by the authors, and a good viewpoint to take bearings anew lies in comparing the post-Great Depression institutions with those emerging from Thatcher and Reagan's economic policies: deregulation, exogenous vs. endoge- nous money, shadow banking vs. Volcker's Rule.
Abstract: The 2008 crash has left all the established economic doctrines - equilibrium models, real business cycles, disequilibria models - in disarray. Part of the problem is due to Smith’s "veil of ignorance": individuals unknowingly pursue society’s interest and, as a result, have no clue as to the macroeconomic effects of their actions: witness the Keynes and Leontief multipliers, the concept of value added, fiat money, Engel’s law and technical progress, to name but a few of the macrofoundations of microeconomics. A good viewpoint to take bearings anew lies in comparing the post-Great Depression institutions with those emerging from Thatcher and Reagan’s economic policies: deregulation, exogenous vs. endoge- nous money, shadow banking vs. Volcker’s Rule. Very simply, the banks, whose lending determined deposits after Roosevelt, and were a public service became private enterprises whose deposits determine lending. These underlay the great moderation preceding 2006, and the subsequent crash.
