First results from Alcator‐C‐MOD*
Ian H. Hutchinson,R. L. Boivin,F. Bombarda,Paul Bonoli,S. Fairfax,C.L. Fiore,John Goetz,S. Golovato,Robert Granetz,Martin Greenwald,S. Horne,Amanda Hubbard,J. H. Irby,Brian LaBombard,Bruce Lipschultz,E.S. Marmar,G.M. McCracken,M. Porkolab,J. E. Rice,J. A. Snipes,Yuichi Takase,J. L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,C. Christensen,D. T. Garnier,M. Graf,T. Hsu,T. Luke,Mark May,A. Niemczewski,G. Tinios,J. Schachter,J. Urbahn +32 more
TL;DR: Early operation of the Alcator C-MOD tokamak [I.H. Hutchinson et al., 1990] is surveyed and the edge plasma shows a wealth of marfe-like phenomena, including a transition to detachment from the divertor plates with accompanying radiative divertor regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma
Brian LaBombard,J. E. Rice,Amanda Hubbard,J. W. Hughes,Martin Greenwald,J. H. Irby,Yuxuan Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,E.S. Marmar,C.S. Pitcher,N. Smick,S.M. Wolfe,S.J. Wukitch +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI
I-mode: an H-mode energy confinement regime with L-mode particle transport in Alcator C-Mod
D.G. Whyte,Amanda Hubbard,J. W. Hughes,Bruce Lipschultz,J. E. Rice,E.S. Marmar,Martin Greenwald,Istvan Cziegler,Arturo Dominguez,Theodore Golfinopoulos,Nathan Howard,Li-Chiang Lin,R. M. McDermott,Miklos Porkolab,Matthew Reinke,J. L. Terry,Naoto Tsujii,S.M. Wolfe,Stephen Wukitch,Yuxuan Lin +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, an improved energy confinement regime, I-mode, is studied in Alcator C-Mod, a compact high-field divertor tokamak using ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRFs) auxiliary heating.
Journal ArticleDOI
H mode confinement in Alcator C-Mod
Martin Greenwald,R. L. Boivin,F. Bombarda,P.T. Bonoli,C.L. Fiore,D. T. Garnier,John Goetz,S. Golovato,M. Graf,Robert Granetz,S. Horne,Amanda Hubbard,Ian H. Hutchinson,J. H. Irby,Brian LaBombard,Bruce Lipschultz,E.S. Marmar,M. J. May,G.M. McCracken,P. O’Shea,J. E. Rice,J. Schachter,J. A. Snipes,P. Stek,Yuichi Takase,J. L. Terry,Y. Wang,R. Watterson,B. Welch,S.M. Wolfe +29 more
TL;DR: A series of experiments, examining the confinement properties of ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) heated H mode plasmas, has been carried out on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of enhanced Dα high-confinement modes in Alcator C-Mod
Martin Greenwald,R.L. Boivin,P.T. Bonoli,R. Budny,C.L. Fiore,J.A. Goetz,Robert Granetz,Amanda Hubbard,Ian H. Hutchinson,James Irby,Brian LaBombard,Yijun Lin,Bruce Lipschultz,Earl Marmar,A. Mazurenko,D. A. Mossessian,T. Sunn Pedersen,C. S. Pitcher,Miklos Porkolab,John Rice,William L. Rowan,J.A. Snipes,G. Schilling,Yuichi Takase,J.L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,J. L. Weaver,B. Welch,S.J. Wukitch +28 more
TL;DR: In this article, the edge gradients in EDA seem to be relaxed by a continuous process rather than an intermittent one as is the case for standard ELMy discharges and thus do not present the first wall with large periodic heat loads.
