Measurement of the ZZ production cross section and search for anomalous couplings in 2ℓ2ℓ′ final states in pp collisions at \( \sqrt{s}=7 \) TeV

Abstract: A measurement is presented of the ZZ production cross section in the ZZ → 2l2l′ decay mode with l = e, μ and l′ = e, μ, τ in proton-proton collisions at s√=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. Results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb^(−1). The measured cross section σ(pp→ZZ)=6.24^(+0.86)_(−0.80)(stat.)^(+0.41)_(−0.32)(syst.)±0.14(lumi.)pb is consistent with the standard model predictions. The following limits on ZZZ and ZZγ anomalous trilinear gauge couplings are set at 95% confidence level: −0.011

Measurement of the W+W- cross section in pp collisions at s=8 TeVand limits on anomalous gauge couplings

Abstract: A measurement of the W boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV is presented. The data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 fb^(-1). The W^+W^− candidates are selected from events with two charged leptons, electrons or muons, and large missing transverse energy. The measured W^+W^− cross section is 60.1 ± 0.9(stat) ± 3.2 (exp) ± 3.1(theo)±1.6 (lumi)\,pb = 60.1 ± 4.8\,pb60.1 ± 0.9 (stat) ±3.2 (exp)±3.1 (theo) ± 1.6 (lumi)\,pb = 60.1 ± 4.8\, pb, consistent with the standard model prediction. The W^+W^− cross sections are also measured in two different fiducial phase space regions. The normalized differential cross section is measured as a function of kinematic variables of the final-state charged leptons and compared with several perturbative QCD predictions. Limits on anomalous gauge couplings associated with dimension-six operators are also given in the framework of an effective field theory. The corresponding 95 % confidence level intervals are −5.7

Search for physics beyond the standard model in events with two leptons, jets, and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at √S= 8 TeV

Abstract: A search is presented for physics beyond the standard model in final states with two opposite-sign same-flavor leptons, jets, and missing transverse momentum. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in 2012. The analysis focuses on searches for a kinematic edge in the invariant mass distribution of the opposite-sign same-flavor lepton pair and for final states with an on-shell Z boson. The observations are consistent with expectations from standard model processes and are interpreted in terms of upper limits on the production of supersymmetric particles.

Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Abstract: XI. STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING DIABETES CARE D iabetes is a chronic illness that requires continuing medical care and patient self-management education to prevent acute complications and to reduce the risk of long-term complications. Diabetes care is complex and requires that many issues, beyond glycemic control, be addressed. A large body of evidence exists that supports a range of interventions to improve diabetes outcomes. These standards of care are intended to provide clinicians, patients, researchers, payors, and other interested individuals with the components of diabetes care, treatment goals, and tools to evaluate the quality of care. While individual preferences, comorbidities, and other patient factors may require modification of goals, targets that are desirable for most patients with diabetes are provided. These standards are not intended to preclude more extensive evaluation and management of the patient by other specialists as needed. For more detailed information, refer to Bode (Ed.): Medical Management of Type 1 Diabetes (1), Burant (Ed): Medical Management of Type 2 Diabetes (2), and Klingensmith (Ed): Intensive Diabetes Management (3). The recommendations included are diagnostic and therapeutic actions that are known or believed to favorably affect health outcomes of patients with diabetes. A grading system (Table 1), developed by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and modeled after existing methods, was utilized to clarify and codify the evidence that forms the basis for the recommendations. The level of evidence that supports each recommendation is listed after each recommendation using the letters A, B, C, or E.
