Accretion onto the supermassive black hole in m87
Tiziana Di Matteo,Tiziana Di Matteo,Tiziana Di Matteo,Steven W. Allen,Andrew C. Fabian,Andrew S. Wilson,Andrew J. Young +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Chandra X-ray observations of the giant elliptical galaxy M87 resolve the thermal state of the hot interstellar medium into the accretion (Bondi) radius of its central 3 × 109 M☉ black hole.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Infrared Survey of Brightest Cluster Galaxies. II: Why are Some Brightest Cluster Galaxies Forming Stars?
Christopher P. O'Dea,Stefi A. Baum,George C. Privon,Jacob Noel-Storr,Alice C. Quillen,Nicholas Zufelt,Jaehong Park,Alastair C. Edge,Helen Russell,Andrew C. Fabian,Megan Donahue,Craig L. Sarazin,Brian R. McNamara,Joel N. Bregman,Eiichi Egami +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented an imaging survey with the Spitzer Space Telescope of 62 brightest cluster galaxies with optical line emission located in the cores of X-ray-luminous clusters and found that at least half of these sources have signs of excess IR emission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of very rapid TeV variability in blazars
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the implications of rapid (few-minute) variability in the TeV flux of blazars, which has been observed recently with the HESS and MAGIC telescopes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The X‐ray virial relations for relaxed lensing clusters observed with Chandra
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relations linking mass, X-ray temperature and bolometric luminosity for a sample of luminous, relatively relaxed clusters of galaxies observed with the Chandra Observatory, for which independent confirmation of the mass results is available from gravitational lensing studies.
