Journal ArticleDOI
The Human ATP-Binding Cassette (ABC) Transporter Superfamily
TL;DR: The current knowledge of the human ABC genes, their role in inherited disease, and understanding of the topology of these genes within the membrane are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Simple Method for Estimating and Testing Minimum-Evolution Trees
Andrey Rzhetsky,Masatoshi Nei +1 more
TL;DR: Both a mathematical method for computing the number of trees with a given value of topological difference from the NJ tree and a computer algorithm for identifying all the topologies are developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A spatial map of olfactory receptor expression in the Drosophila antenna.
TL;DR: A novel family of seven transmembrane domain proteins, encoded by 100 to 200 genes, that is likely to represent the family of Drosophila odorant receptors are identified and may ultimately afford a system to understand the mechanistic link between odor recognition and behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunity-Related Genes and Gene Families in Anopheles gambiae
George K. Christophides,Evgeny M. Zdobnov,Carolina Barillas-Mury,Ewan Birney,Stéphanie Blandin,Claudia Blass,Paul T. Brey,Frank H. Collins,Alberto Danielli,George Dimopoulos,Charles Hetru,Ngo Thi Hoa,Jules A. Hoffmann,Stefan M. Kanzok,Ivica Letunic,Elena A. Levashina,Thanasis G. Vernick,Dina Vlachou,Jennifer Volz,Christian von Mering,Jiannong Xu,Liangbiao Zheng,Peer Bork,Fotis C. Kafatos +34 more
TL;DR: 242 Anopheles gambiae genes from 18 gene families implicated in innate immunity are identified and marked diversification relative to Drosophila melanogaster is detected, confirming that sequence diversification is accompanied by specific responses to different immune challenges.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogenetic test of the molecular clock and linearized trees.
TL;DR: To estimate approximate divergence times of species or species groups with molecular data, a method of constructing a linearized tree under the assumption of a molecular clock is developed and used to analyze hominoid mitochondrial DNA and drosophilid Adh gene sequences.
