An intrinsic growth instability in isotropic materials leads to quasi-two-dimensional nanoplatelets

TL;DR: A model that explains nanoplatelet formation as well as observed dependencies on time and temperature is developed, and the resulting growth instability criterion can be directly applied to other crystalline materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

How semiconductor nanoplatelets form

TL;DR: In this article, an intrinsic instability in growth kinetics of colloidal nanoplatelets was shown to explain the formation of nanoplatelet structures. But this model was based on theoretical results showing enhanced growth on narrow surface facets, rationalizing nanoplatelett formation and experimental dependencies on temperature, time and carboxylate length.
Journal ArticleDOI

Compositional Grading for Efficient and Narrowband Emission in CdSe-Based Core/Shell Nanoplatelets

TL;DR: In this article, the photoluminescence spectra of colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets exhibit exceptionally narrow spectra and can be synthesized in such a way that all nanoplatelet samples share the same atomic-scale t...
Journal ArticleDOI

Unraveling the Growth Mechanism of Magic-Sized Semiconductor Nanocrystals.

TL;DR: The magic-sized clusters (MSCs) of semiconductor are typically defined as specific molecular-scale arrangements of atoms that exhibit enhanced stability as mentioned in this paper, and they often grow in discrete jumps, creating a s...
