Analysis of a production/inventory system with randomly failing production unit submitted to regular preventive maintenance

TL;DR: A mathematical model has been developed for a repairable production unit subject to random failures, which supplies input to a subsequent assembly line operating according to a just-in-time configuration that takes into account the probability distributions associated to lifetime, repair time, preventive maintenance duration, and the renewal process associated to the operation–repair cycles of the production unit.
Journal ArticleDOI

A decision model for adopting an extended warranty under different maintenance policies

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a mathematical model to study the opportunity provided by the extended warranty for the buyer as well as for the manufacturer, and the total average cost incurred by each side during the product's life cycle is expressed in order to determine the maximum extra cost the consumer should pay and the minimum price at which the manufacturer should sell the Extended Warranty.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimal selective renewal policy for systems subject to propagated failures with global effect and failure isolation phenomena

TL;DR: This paper considers a selective maintenance policy for multi-component systems for which a minimum level of reliability is required for each mission, and a set of rules to reduce the solutions space for such complex systems is developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spare provisioning strategy for preventively replaced systems subjected to random failure

TL;DR: A numerical algorithm is proposed to find the optimal strategy which minimizes the total expected cost of the replacement period, replenishment and spare parts inventory management per time unit over an infinite span.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling and optimizing a joint inventory control and preventive maintenance strategy for a randomly failing production unit: Analytical and simulation approaches

TL;DR: This paper presents a joint optimal inventory control and preventive maintenance strategy for a randomly failing production unit which supplies an assembly line operating according to a just-in-time configuration.
