Il analyse l'action latente qu'exerce sur le développement de cette communauté agraire une économie de prestige. Les Cipaya du haut plateau bolivien sont sans doute l'une des dernières sociétés andines où subsistent d'importantes survivances précolombiennes : à cause de leur isolement relatif ils n'ont subi que de façon tout extérieure l'influence du christianisme. C'est ainsi qu'ils rendent un culte à l'ancienne divinité Pacha-mama — la terre mère —, aux montagnes et aux rivières, et qu'ils font à leurs dieux offrandes et libations. Les cônes de terres, mal'ku, dressés autour du village pour symboliser les esprits rappellent les anciennes huaca péruviennes. Les samiri, fétiches protecteurs des troupeaux et des champs, sont encore objets de culte chez les Aymara modernes, comme ils l'étaient à l'époque incaïque. On sait que dans l'empire Inca la religion populaire différait quelque peu de la religion officielle du Cuzco. Mais les similitudes entre les rites des actuels Cipaya et les anciennes pratiques révèlent une unité religieuse plus profonde de attestent de l'existence d'un fonds commun sur lequel se sont édifiées « les religions plus complexes des grands empires disparus ». Expert and exceptional performance are shown to be mediated by cognitive and perceptual-motor skills and by domain-specific physiological and anatomical adaptations. The highest levels of human performance in different domains can only be attained after around ten years of extended, daily amounts of deliberate practice activities. Laboratory analyses of expert performance in many domains such as chess, medicine, auditing, computer programming, bridge, physics, sports, typing, juggling, dance, and music reveal maximal adaptations of experts to domain-specific constraints. For example, acquired anticipatory skills circumvent general limits on reaction time, and distinctive memory skills allow a domain-specific expansion of working memory capacity to support planning, reasoning, and evaluation. Many of the mechanisms of superior expert performance serve the dual purpose of mediating experts' current performance and of allowing continued improvement of this performance in response to informative feedback during practice activities.

Daily life is understood as being marked by the actions of people to ensure their bodily and general well-being, occurring mainly within their homes and the directly surrounding areas. On Elephantine Island such activities are grouped, within the scope of the project ‘Realities of Life’, into three major foci that may be studied through material culture: a) food and drink, b) production of inedible items and c) living environment. Excavations in Middle Kingdom houses reveal a variety of production activities intended to either provision the townspeople (most likely) or for trade. The use of both standard archaeological and archaeometric methods provide new insight into jewellery and bread production, demands for cleanliness and (supra-)regional connections of the inhabitants of the island city.
