Journal ArticleDOI

The W. M. Keck Observatory Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics System: Overview

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the conceptual approach and technical implementation followed for this system, including lessons learned, and provide an overview of the early science capabilities of the adaptive optics system.
Journal ArticleDOI

The W. M. Keck Observatory Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics System: Performance Characterization

TL;DR: The first 8-10 m class telescope equipped with a laser guide star adaptive optics (LGS AO) system is the Keck II Telescope as mentioned in this paper, which produces K-band Strehl ratios between 30% and 40% using bright tip-tilt guide stars.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct detection of variable tropospheric clouds near Titan's south pole

TL;DR: The discovery of transient clouds near the south pole of Titan demonstrates the existence of condensation and localized moist convection in Titan's atmosphere, and suggests that methane cloud formation is controlled seasonally by small variations in surface temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

The first laser guide star adaptive optics observations of the galactic center : Sgr A*'S infrared color and the extended red emission in its vicinity

TL;DR: In this paper, the first laser guide star adaptive optics (LGSAO) observations of the Galactic center are presented, which are at least a factor 2 higher and a factor of 4-5 more stable against atmospheric fluctuations than the Strehl ratios delivered thus far with the Keck natural guide star AO system on the galactic center.
