TL;DR: A Web collaboration architecture for the new Web environment is proposed, which presents Web 2.0 features and technical state-of-the-art and describes the architecture proposed.
Abstract: Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) has typically been bound within organizations. Groupware applications are designed with organizational structures in mind, in a top-down approach that predicts communication and collaboration interactions between people. With Internet adoption in society, CSCW overflows organizational borders towards Internet Supported Collaborative Work (ISCW), where the organization of work becomes decentralized, centered on individual interests and pretty dynamic. This paper proposes a Web Collaboration Architecture for the new web environment. The article reviews common groupware problems and reflects recent organizational changes. It presents Web 2.0 features and technical state-of-the-art. Then, it describes the architecture proposed, to finish with conclusions and future research lines.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the web is entering a "second phase" -a new, "improved" Web version 2.0. But how justified is this perception?
Abstract: Within 15 years the web has grown from a group work tool for scientists at CERN into a global information space with more than a billion users. Currently, it is both returning to its roots as a read/write tool and also entering a new, more social and participatory stage. These trends have led to a feeling that the web is entering a ‘second phase’ – a new, ‘improved’ Web version 2.0. But how justified is this perception?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose five axioms: (1) social media are always a function of the technology, culture, and government of a particular country or context; (2) local events rarely remain local; (3) global events are likely to be (re)interpreted locally; (4) creative consumers’ actions and creations are also dependent on technology; and (5) technology is historically dependent.

TL;DR: This paper addresses a framework to harvest ambient geospatial information, and resulting hybrid capabilities to analyze it to support situational awareness as it relates to human activities.
Abstract: Social media generated from many individuals is playing a greater role in our daily lives and provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight on information flow and social networking within a society. Through data collection and analysis of its content, it supports a greater mapping and understanding of the evolving human landscape. The information disseminated through such media represents a deviation from volunteered geography, in the sense that it is not geographic information per se. Nevertheless, the message often has geographic footprints, for example, in the form of locations from where the tweets originate, or references in their content to geographic entities. We argue that such data conveys ambient geospatial information, capturing for example, people’s references to locations that represent momentary social hotspots. In this paper we address a framework to harvest such ambient geospatial information, and resulting hybrid capabilities to analyze it to support situational awareness as it relates to human activities. We argue that this emergence of ambient geospatial analysis represents a second step in the evolution of geospatial data availability, following on the heels of volunteered geographical information.
