TL;DR: The experimental results show that, adaptive filtering using Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithm is the most appropriate methodology for the foetal phonocardiographic signals de-noising implementation.
Abstract: In health care centres, some precise and multifunctional ultrasound based systems are used for Foetal Heart Rate (FHR) monitoring. These monitors are invasive and cannot be used for prolonged home monitoring applications. In previous work, authors have developed a prototype FHR home monitoring system. The objective of this work is to present an effective de-noising technique for the phonocardiographic signal obtained from the prototype device. Various digital noise cancellation techniques are compared and analysed for their performance through Matlab simulation. The experimental results show that, adaptive filtering using Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithm is the most appropriate methodology for the foetal phonocardiographic signals de-noising implementation.
