Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study
Van-Mai Cao-Lormeau,Alexandre Blake,Sandrine Mons,Stéphane Lastère,Claudine Roche,Jessica Vanhomwegen,Timothée Dub,Laure Baudouin,Anita Teissier,P. Larre,Anne-Laure Vial,Christophe Decam,Valérie Choumet,Susan K. Halstead,Hugh J. Willison,Lucile Musset,Jean-Claude Manuguerra,Philippe Desprès,Emmanuel Fournier,Henri-Pierre Mallet,Didier Musso,Arnaud Fontanet,Arnaud Fontanet,Jean Neil,Frédéric Ghawché +24 more
TL;DR: This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimating the burden of SARS-CoV-2 in France.
Henrik Salje,Henrik Salje,Henrik Salje,Cécile Tran Kiem,Cécile Tran Kiem,Noémie Lefrancq,Noémie Courtejoie,Paolo Bosetti,Juliette Paireau,Alessio Andronico,Nathanaël Hozé,Jehanne Richet,Claire Lise Dubost,Yann Le Strat,Justin Lessler,Daniel Levy Bruhl,Arnaud Fontanet,Arnaud Fontanet,Lulla Opatowski,Lulla Opatowski,Pierre-Yves Boëlle,Simon Cauchemez +21 more
TL;DR: France has been heavily affected by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic and went into lockdown on 17 March 2020, and population immunity appears to be insufficient to avoid a second wave if all control measures are released at the end of the lockdown.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between Zika virus and microcephaly in French Polynesia, 2013–15: a retrospective study
Simon Cauchemez,Marianne Besnard,Priscillia Bompard,Timothée Dub,Prisca Guillemette-Artur,Dominique Eyrolle-Guignot,Henrik Salje,Henrik Salje,Maria D. Van Kerkhove,Véronique Abadie,Catherine Garel,Arnaud Fontanet,Arnaud Fontanet,Henri-Pierre Mallet +13 more
TL;DR: This work retrospectively analysed data from a Zika virus outbreak in French Polynesia to provide a quantitative estimate of the risk of microcephaly in fetuses and neonates whose mothers are infected with Zika virus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age-specific mortality and immunity patterns of SARS-CoV-2.
Megan O'Driscoll,Megan O'Driscoll,Gabriel Ribeiro Dos Santos,Gabriel Ribeiro Dos Santos,Lin Wang,Lin Wang,Derek A. T. Cummings,Andrew S. Azman,Andrew S. Azman,Juliette Paireau,Arnaud Fontanet,Arnaud Fontanet,Simon Cauchemez,Henrik Salje,Henrik Salje +14 more
TL;DR: The relative risk of COVID-19-associated death for younger individuals (under 65) is consistent across countries and can be used to robustly compare the underlying number of infections in each country, and the age distribution of deaths in younger age groups is very consistent across different settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
COVID-19 herd immunity: where are we?
Arnaud Fontanet,Simon Cauchemez +1 more
TL;DR: A key question in the current COVID-19 pandemic is how and when herd immunity can be achieved and at what cost.
