Personalizing the treatment of pediatric medulloblastoma: Polo-like kinase 1 as a molecular target in high-risk children
Joanna Triscott,Catherine J. Lee,Colleen M. Foster,Branavan Manoranjan,Mary Rose Pambid,Rachel Berns,Abbas Fotovati,Chitra Venugopal,Katrina O'Halloran,Aru Narendran,Cynthia Hawkins,Vijay Ramaswamy,Eric Bouffet,Michael D. Taylor,Ash Singhal,Juliette Hukin,Rod Rassekh,Stephen Yip,Paul A. Northcott,Sheila K. Singh,Christopher Dunham,Sandra E. Dunn +21 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that patients with medulloblastoma expressing high levels of PLK1 are at elevated risk and screened a library of 129 compounds in clinical trials using a model of pediatric medullOBlastoma and determined thatPLK1 inhibitors were the most promising class of agents against the growth of medulloplastoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polo-like kinase 1 inhibition kills glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor cells in part through loss of SOX2 and delays tumor progression in mice.
Cathy Lee,Abbas Fotovati,Joanna Triscott,James Chen,Chitra Venugopal,Ash Singhal,Christopher Dunham,John M. Kerr,Maite Verreault,Stephen Yip,Hiroaki Wakimoto,Chris Jones,Aarthi Jayanthan,Aru Narendran,Sheila K. Singh,Sandra E. Dunn +15 more
TL;DR: PLK1 level is elevated in GBM and its inhibition restricts the growth of brain cancer cells, and its expression in brain tumor initiating cells (BTICs) is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Eight-year outcome of implementation of abusive head trauma prevention.
Ronald Barr,Marilyn Barr,Fahra Rajabali,Claire Humphreys,Ian Pike,Rollin Brant,Jean Hlady,Margaret Colbourne,Takeo Fujiwara,Ash Singhal +9 more
TL;DR: The intervention was associated with a 35% reduction in infant AHT admissions that was significant for <24-month-olds, and it is encouraging that reductions in AHT may be achievable with a system-wide implementation of a comprehensive parental education prevention program.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak and pseudomeningocele formation after posterior fossa tumor resection in children: a retrospective analysis
TL;DR: The use of tissue glue, dural grafts, and external ventricular drainage was not associated with a reduced rate of clinically or radiologically diagnosed pseudomeningocele formation or postoperative CSF leak and the results of this study provide a basis for planning a randomized controlled trial to determine the effectiveness of tissue glued and/ordural grafting in preventing these complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trauma association of Canada Pediatric Subcommittee National Pediatric Cervical Spine Evaluation Pathway: consensus guidelines.
Seen Chung,Angelo Mikrogianakis,Paul W. Wales,Peter B. Dirks,Manohar Shroff,Ash Singhal,Vincent Grant,B.J. Hancock,David Creery,Jeffrey Atkinson,Dickens St-Vil,Louis Crevier,Natalie L. Yanchar,Allen Hayashi,Vivek Mehta,Timothy S. Carey,Sonny Dhanani,Ron Siemens,Sheila K. Singh,Dave Price +19 more
TL;DR: An evidence-based, national pediatric cervical spine clearance guideline based on the literature, existing algorithms from each pediatric trauma center and from expert opinion from across Canada is created.
