Abstract: When trying to analyse a LANSOD (LANguage for Specialists of Other Disciplines) training course, the elements that have to be taken into account are numerous and complex, and many questions are raised. For example, in the case of the English course in the undergraduate programme of musicology at the University of Lille SHS (France), how can high absenteeism be accounted for? What about the students’ lack of motivation, or teachers’ dissatisfaction at teaching the course? The purpose of the action-research project reported on is to understand and articulate these various elements so as to conceive, set up and evaluate a coherent language course, adapted to a specific context. We decided to adopt a dynamic and complex system approach as it was believed to be helpful in apprehending the complexity of a LANSOD context, guiding a needs analysis, and designing and evaluating a training course. We favoured the triangulation of sources, methods, and qualitative analyses in order to identify the main problems of the existing training course and to set the objectives of a new course. These results led us to conclude that a blended course with relatively highly specialised content was the most suitable option for this learning environment.

Abstract: Vibratory energy channelling between a linear and a nonlinear oscillator is studied at different time scales. The nonlinear system possesses a time-dependent periodic restoring forcing function. Detection of fast and slow system dynamics leads to revealing different dynamical characteristics, namely slow invariant manifold, equilibrium and singular points. We show that the time-dependent nonlinearity produces a phase-dependent slow invariant manifold, frequency responses, and modifications concerning stability borders of its slow invariant manifold and singularities zones. The backbone curves of the system and also isola are detected; the latter should be taken into account carefully if the aim is system control.

Abstract: Technologie de rupture ou non, il est indeniable que les MOOC constituent un nouveau type de cours qui ne peut etre ignore. Notre hypothese de depart est que leur contenu disciplinaire specialise ainsi que leur substrat linguistique (dans notre cas, l’anglais) pourraient s’averer utiles pour l’enseignement LANSAD. Une etude de cas est ainsi proposee. A la suite de l’analyse d’un environnement d’apprentissage specifique, la premiere annee de formation du departement de chimie a l’Ecole normale superieure de Cachan, l’adequation de cet environnement d’apprentissage avec des MOOC existants est evaluee. La grille d’analyse et d’evaluation suivie est adaptee des principes de l’ergonomie didactique. Une lecture par poles (contexte, apprenant, enseignant, contenu, technologie) de l’environnement d’apprentissage permet d’etudier les plus-values eventuelles et les inconvenients pour chacun de ces poles. En fonction du degre d’adequation, des pistes d’exploitation et des strategies de detournement sont alors suggerees a l’aide d’exemples concrets.

Abstract: Le secteur LANSAD est le premier secteur d’enseignement des langues du superieur en termes d’effectifs etudiants. Or malgre le dynamisme de la recherche, le praticien reste confronte a un nombre intimidant de questions lorsqu’il s’agit de concevoir une formation. Comment prendre en compte la complexite des environnements d’apprentissage et d’enseignement LANSAD pour concevoir et evaluer une formation ? Cette these sert deux objectifs : proposer une methodologie pour mettre en place et evaluer une formation LANSAD d’une part, et contribuer a la caracterisation du secteur d’autre part. Pour ce faire, une recherche-action est menee, decrites ici en deux parties. Dans un premier temps, nous definissons le « dispositif d’anglais LANSAD ». A cette occasion, plusieurs disciplines, theories et methodologies sont convoquees, telles que l’approche des systemes dynamiques complexes, la demarche ingenierique ou la didactique des langues. Parallelement a la definition du dispositif, une methodologie et des outils qui lui sont specifiquement adaptes sont proposes, penses pour faciliter l’analyse des terrains LANSAD. Ainsi, nous presentons une modelisation du dispositif, une grille de questions pour l’analyse des besoins et un tableau de bord pour evaluer la formation. Dans un second temps, la methodologie et ces outils sont mis a l’epreuve du terrain. Le contexte choisi est celui de la licence de musicologie a l’Universite de Lille. Le terrain est analyse, puis un nouveau dispositif est mis en place et evalue. Pour terminer, nous evaluons la pertinence de cette demarche et des outils convoques, et explorons leurs possibilites de transfert a d’autres contextes d’apprentissage et d’enseignement des langues.

Abstract: Cet article aborde la problematique d’un detournement dans la mediation des savoirs. Notre enquete porte sur la place de ressources issues des MOOC (massive open online courses) en formation universitaire presentielle dans un contexte de faible debit Internet et d’instabilite de l’energie electrique. Au regard des objectifs d’enseigner, d’apprendre et d’evaluer autrement d’une part, et d’assurance qualite d’autre part, quelle valeur ajoutee les contenus issus des MOOC en particulier des videos ou podcasts peuvent-ils apporter en pedagogie universitaire ? La methodologie de notre enquete est qualitative avec 61 repondants (apprenants et enseignants). Les resultats ont revele des opinions contrastees.

Abstract: Most university degrees in France include languages as part of the curriculum. LANguages for Students of Other Disciplines (LANSOD) courses refer to language courses destined to students whose major is not languages, but another discipline such as musicology or chemistry. It is estimated about 90% of students enrolled in French higher education attend LANSOD classes (Causa & Derivry-Plard, 2013). At the same time, it is agreed that French universities should ‘professionalise’ students – that is, prepare them for their future professional lives. LANSOD courses should be no exception and should be included in this process, yet French universities appear to struggle with the design of language courses that are relevant to the future professional needs of learners.

Abstract: Needs analysis guides course and curriculum design. In addition to mandatory courses, it is necessary for intensive language schools and institutes. Recent university graduates in China are increasingly enrolling in language training at public and private language schools to hone their communication abilities. On the other hand, English courses as the workplace prerequisites for Chinese university graduates have been scientifically researched and found to be exceedingly rare. The research's fundamental premise serves that there is a substantial link between the demands of Chinese recent graduates and university English course design. The aim of this research is to assess the goals, needs, and perceived utility of university English courses among recent on-the-job Chinese graduates over an eight-month period. After evaluating the questionnaire and interview replies, it was concluded that these Chinese young graduates in China had similar learning demands, with listening and speaking skills taking primacy. Additionally, various characteristics were discovered that show why an English course designed for future workplace purposes is advantageous to university students. The results are examined in terms of their pedagogical importance for curriculum creation and classroom practice in English courses at the university.
