TL;DR: In this article, the authors set out the future research area of competitiveness theory taking into account the development of competitiveness concept and existing research tendencies, and critically analyse existing studies on competitiveness, suggesting different definitions, classification, factors, models of competitiveness, and evaluation criteria.
Abstract: European Council agreed to the European Commission's proposal to launch a new strategy for jobs and growth ‐ the new European Union strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth ‐ “Europe 2020” This will lead to a new concept of the competitiveness and deeper relationship between sustainable development and competitiveness The aim of this article is to set out the future research area of competitiveness theory taking into account the development of competitiveness concept and existing research tendencies On the one hand, for developing the new concept of competitiveness, it is necessary to critically analyse existing studies on competitiveness Researchers, examining the problems of competitiveness, differently approach the concept of competitiveness, suggesting different definitions, classification, factors, models of competitiveness, and evaluation criteria Despite all the discussions on competitiveness however, no clear definition or model of competitiveness has yet been developed

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an approach to natural resources, especially forests, as the one of the future sustainable competitiveness resources, with specific focus on its ownership, and address the challenges of sustainable development and competitiveness.
Abstract: Competitiveness race in the global economy, on the one side, and the acknowledgement of the sustainable development dimension, on the other side, brings Europe against extraordinary challenges but also to great opportunities. Mapping the future sustainable competitiveness creates a need for research initiatives to develop the new concept of competitiveness, with much of the research focusing on how sustainable development and competitiveness interact. The changing policy context, growing role of sustainable development, the transition to a green economy and the new European Union strategy Europe 2020 (2010) for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth leads to the “rethinking” of the main drivers of the sustainable competitiveness in the long prosperity and the future competitiveness leadership. The approach to natural resources, especially forests, as to the one of the future sustainable competitiveness resources, with the specific focus on its ownership is addressed in this article.

TL;DR: The influence of national culture on the competitive advantage of nations is given too little attention in this model as mentioned in this paper, in particular, strong or weak uncertainty avoidance behaviour in nations and their masculine/feminine characteristics are neglected.
Abstract: textThis article uses as its starting point Michael Porter's model of the national ‘diamond’ to explain the role of the national environment in the competitive position of industries and firms. The authors believe, however, that the influence of national culture on the competitive advantage of nations is given too little attention in this model. In particular, strong or weak uncertainty avoidance behaviour in nations and their masculine/feminine characteristics are neglected. The national diamond rests on the base of national culture, and the latter is exogenous to the firm. In a European context, managing the different diamonds that exist itself generates competitive advantage.

TL;DR: In this paper, a long-range energy forecasting software, developed by Stockholm Environment Institute, is employed for the long-term forecasting of energy use and energy intensities in the household sectors.
Abstract: DOI: 10.14254/2071789X.2018/11-1/16 ABSTRACT. In the presented paper assumption is being raised that ceteris paribus forecasted energy efficiency until the year 2050 reveals competitive potential, which could be reached if technological progress is ongoing and no radical changes in the energy consumption culture are observed. The research methodology is as follows. In order to clarify what trends of energy efficiency change are preconditioned by the structure of the economy, technological potential and behavioral patterns, activity level and energy intensity in the household sector are forecasted for the selected European countries – Poland, Lithuania and Germany. Lithuania and Poland represent here the countries slightly less economically developed as compared to highly developed Germany. Long-range energy forecasting software LEAP, developed by Stockholm Environment Institute is being employed for the long-term forecasting of energy use and energy intensities in the household sectors. The obtained results, as we have expected, allow verifying if consistent patterns of energy intensity change is existent for currently comparatively less developed and better countries, and if such patterns differ. Peculiarities of energy intensity change in less developed and more developed European countries are to be economically interpreted. The obtained results will allow to judge about change of competitiveness of the considered countries. Provided insights can be instrumental for devising national economic policies oriented on more efficient energy use in the long run.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the influence of CSMA on customer satisfaction (CS), word of mouth intention (WOMI) and repurchase intention (RI) in the shipping industry.
Abstract: As the concept of corporate sustainable management activities (CSMA) has become an increasingly important element of corporate management, much attention has been paid to its impact on customer relationship. Although there exists many studies concentrating mainly on the environment aspect of CSMA, only a few address the three dimensions of CSMA (environmental, social and economic) and examine their comprehensive impact on relationship marketing. In an attempt to fill this gap, the purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the influence of CSMA on customer satisfaction (CS), word of mouth intention (WOMI) and repurchase intention (RI).,The data come from 214 shipping industry practitioners (shippers, freight forwarders and third party logistics service providers in South Korea). Structural equation modeling (SEM) is employed to test the impact of CSMA on CS, WOMI and RI.,Based on a survey conducted in South Korea, the findings indicate that environmental and economic aspects of CSMA play a significant role in enhancing CS and the enhanced CS positively affects WOMI and RI.,As the field data were obtained from only one industry, future replication of the findings to other industries should consider industry-specific factors, if applicable.,The results highlight several implications for shipping industry practitioners to consider when establishing the strategy for effective corporate sustainable management to enhance CS.,This study is one of the first empirical attempts to explore how CSMA affects CS in the shipping industry. In addition, this paper empirically investigates the influence of CS on WOMI and RI.

TL;DR: Some important implications are being provided, which elevate the significance of security to sustainability for today’s globalized society security can be proposed as expression with ponderable value, while sustainability gains this power only with “sustainable development” phenomenon.
Abstract: Security and sustainability conception analysis is being provided in the paper. The conceptions of security and sustainability have been selected due to their significance for contemporary globalized world’s issues. Initially, the perceptions encompassing even ancient times are being elaborated. Onward, with an intention to get a more sophisticated view of above mentioned expressions, relevant scientific literature has been critically reviewed accentuating to the dimensions of those two phenomena. The following common dimensions could be proposed: social, economic, environmental. The implication could be stated security conception provides not only those three dimensions some other important dimensions could be distinguished as well. One more important finding composes the perception of dimensions interactions to analyzed conceptions. Some important implications are being provided in the paper, which elevate the significance of security to sustainability for today’s globalized society security can be proposed as expression with ponderable value, while sustainability gains this power only with “sustainable development” phenomenon.
