Bus network design

TL;DR: In this article, an algorithm is presented that can be used to design new bus routes taking account of both passenger and operator interests; however, this algorithm focuses on only a single component of the overall bus operations planning process described in this paper.
Book

Public Transit Planning and Operation: Theory, Modeling and Practice

Avishai Ceder
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an introduction to transit service planning, Data Requirements and Collection Frequency and Headway Determination, Timetable Development, Advanced Timetables I: Maximum Passenger Load, AdvancedTimetables II: Maximum Synchronization, Vehicle Scheduling I: Fixed Schedules, Vehicle Schedule II: Variable Schedules.
Journal ArticleDOI

Creating bus timetables with maximal synchronization

TL;DR: A heuristic algorithm is developed to solve the problem of generating a timetable for a given network of buses so as to maximize their synchronization, and the efficiency of this algorithm, compared to optimal solutions, is illustrated through a series of examples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bus frequency determination using passenger count data

TL;DR: Four different methods are presented to derive the bus frequency: two are based on point check (maximum load) data and two propose the use of ride check (load profile) data, which provides the bus scheduler with adequate guidance in selecting the type of data collection procedure.
