The importance of grain boundary morphology and cohesion on intergranular strength

TL;DR: The morphology and constituency at grain boundaries are important in determining the properties of a poly crystalline material as mentioned in this paper and it is shown that sulphur contents greater than 20 at. at. ppm can embrittle nickel and nickel-base superalloys when the sulphur segregates to the grain boundaries and reduces intergranular cohesive strength.
