The effect of gender on the decision to incarcerate before and after the introduction of sentencing guidelines

TL;DR: This paper explored the relationship between gender and imprisonment decisions in Minnesota before and after the introduction of sentencing guidelines and found that gender alone did not have a significant impact on the likelihood of imprisonment, but women with dependent children were significantly less likely to be imprisoned before sentencing guidelines.

TL;DR: This paper examined responses to surveys administered to convenience samples of students enrolled at the University of South Carolina prior to and following the mass shooting incidents on the campuses of Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University and found that both shootings were associated with modest increases in various measures of fear.
