Journal ArticleDOI

Limits of and possibilities to improve the IREQ cold stress model (ISO/TR 11079). A validation study in the field.

TL;DR: The analysis of the differences between estimated worn insulation (Icl) and calculated IREQneutral revealed that the IREZ-model applies for air temperatures up to 15 degrees C and for temperature changes of 13 degrees C (at least) but needs to be improved with respect to gender.
Journal ArticleDOI

Disturbed sleep in obstructive sleep apnea expressed in a single index of sleep disturbance (SDI)

TL;DR: The Sleep Disturbance Index (SDI) is a novel index based on polysomnography describing sleep quality in a single score applied in a clinical setting for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Drafts in cold environments--the significance of air temperature and direction.

TL;DR: Air temperature and of the direction of drafts on subjective and physiological responses were systematically related to air temperature and the predictive model developed by Toftum underestimated the percentage of persons annoyed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase (AANAT) genotype as a personal trait in melatonin synthesis.

TL;DR: SNPs in the AANAT gene identified thus far cannot explain the observed interindividual differences for nocturnal melatonin profiles in the subjects investigated, and point to ethnic differences with respect to these SNPs, rather than time of day termed “morningness.”
Journal ArticleDOI

The reliability of melatonin synthesis as an indicator of the individual circadian phase position.

TL;DR: In both studies, melatonin profiles occurred earlier in the morning than in the evening types, the difference was smaller in soldiers, thus conditioning contributes to the actual phase position but does not mask morningness.
