Global distribution of earthworm diversity

Helen Phillips, +145 more
- 25 Oct 2019 -
TL;DR: It was found that local species richness and abundance typically peaked at higher latitudes, displaying patterns opposite to those observed in aboveground organisms, which suggest that climate change may have serious implications for earthworm communities and for the functions they provide.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reconciling Conflicting Paradigms of Biodiversity Conservation: Human Intervention and Rewilding

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a framework based on the relationship between ecosystem dynamics and the human footprint, including land-use legacies, to guide the mixture of rewilding and intervention practices in order to ensure a biodiverse future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impacts of fire severity and cattle grazing on early plant dynamics in old-growth Araucaria-Nothofagus forests

TL;DR: Fire severity had a significant impact on the plant community of old-growth Araucaria-Nothofagus forests, especially in areas of high fire severity, where the native tree N. pumilio was completely absent and a synergetic effect of cattle and fire on species richness was found.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of shade levels on the survival and growth of planted trees in dry afromontane forest: Implications for restoration success

TL;DR: It is concluded that protection has contributed to the success of the early establishment of seedlings so it should be taken as a prerequisite in enrichment planting programs until seedlings are no more endangered for their establishment.
