Journal ArticleDOI
Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary: biology and molecular traits of a cosmopolitan pathogen.
TL;DR: This review summarizes current knowledge of mechanisms employed by the fungus to parasitize its host with emphasis on biology, physiology and molecular aspects of pathogenicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of Diverse Mycoviruses through Metatranscriptomics Characterization of the Viromes of Five Major Fungal Plant Pathogens
Shin-Yi Lee Marzano,Berlin D. Nelson,Olutoyosi O Ajayi-Oyetunde,Carl A. Bradley,Teresa J. Hughes,Glen L. Hartman,Glen L. Hartman,Darin M. Eastburn,Leslie L. Domier,Leslie L. Domier +9 more
TL;DR: To characterize the viromes of five widely dispersed plant-pathogenic fungi, a high-throughput sequencing-based metatranscriptomic approach was used to detect viral sequences, and 66 previously undescribed mycoviruses were identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corn yield loss estimates due to diseases in the United States and Ontario, Canada from 2012 to 2015.

Sikora,Damon L. Smith,Terry Spurlock,C. Tande,Albert Tenuta,Kiersten A. Wise,J. Allen Wrather +42 more
TL;DR: Annual decreases in corn yield caused by diseases were estimated by surveying members of the Corn Disease Working Group in 22 corn-producing states in the United States and in Ontario, Canada from 2012 through 2015 by finding foliar diseases commonly caused the largest estimated yield loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization and pathogenicity of Rhizoctonia from soybean.
TL;DR: Results indicate that AG-5 could be an important soybean pathogen and that other rotational crops are hosts to R. solani, which is generally less virulent on soybean than AG-2-2 and AG-4, but when inoculum was placed in direct contact with seeds, AG- 5 caused high levels of pre- and postemergence damping-off.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oomycete species associated with soybean seedlings in North America-part I: Identification and pathogenicity characterization
J. Alejandro Rojas,Janette L. Jacobs,Stephanie A. Napieralski,Behirda Karaj,Carl A. Bradley,Thomas Chase,Paul D. Esker,Loren J. Giesler,Doug Jardine,Dean K. Malvick,Samuel G. Markell,Berlin D. Nelson,Alison E. Robertson,John C. Rupe,Damon L. Smith,Laura Sweets,Albert Tenuta,Kiersten A. Wise,Martin I. Chilvers +18 more
TL;DR: This study provides a comprehensive characterization of oomycete species present in soybean seedling roots in the major production areas in the United States and Ontario, Canada and provides a basis for disease management and breeding programs.
