Assessment of total urban metabolism and metabolic inefficiency in an Irish city-region.
TL;DR: An empirical indicator to measure resource efficiency, using a ratio of waste disposal as a function of product consumption, was developed and it was found that total materials metabolic inefficiency fell by 31% from 0.13 in 1996 to 0.09 in 2002.

Evaluation of the Q-method as a method of public participation in the selection of sustainable development indicators
TL;DR: In this paper, the Q-method was used to combine public opinion with technical expertise to create a list of technically robust indicators that would be relevant to the public, and the results demonstrated that many citizens are not aware of sustainable development, and if it is to be successfully communicated to them, then indicators and policy need to be couched in terms familiar and relevant to citizen and communities.
