Journal ArticleDOI
A genomics approach reveals that aroma production in apple is controlled by ethylene predominantly at the final step in each biosynthetic pathway
Robert J. Schaffer,Ellen N. Friel,Edwige J. F. Souleyre,Karen Bolitho,Kate Thodey,Susan E. Ledger,Judith H. Bowen,Jun-Hong Ma,Bhawana Nain,Daniel Cohen,Andrew P. Gleave,Ross N. Crowhurst,Bart J. Janssen,Jia-Long Yao,Richard D. Newcomb +14 more
TL;DR: This analysis suggests that the initial and final enzymatic steps with the biosynthetic pathways are important transcriptional regulation points for aroma production in apple.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analyses of Expressed Sequence Tags from Apple
Richard D. Newcomb,Ross N. Crowhurst,Andrew P. Gleave,Erik H. A. Rikkerink,Andrew C. Allan,Lesley L. Beuning,Judith H. Bowen,Emma Gera,Kim R. Jamieson,Bart J. Janssen,William A. Laing,Steve McArtney,Bhawana Nain,Gavin S. Ross,Kimberley C. Snowden,Edwige J. F. Souleyre,Eric F. Walton,Yar-Khing Yauk +17 more
TL;DR: A substantial expressed sequence tag collection from various tissues of apple is produced, focusing on fruit tissues of the cultivar Royal Gala, indicating the presence of many genes involved in disease resistance and the biosynthesis of flavor and health-associated compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of expressed sequence tags from Actinidia: Applications of a cross species EST database for gene discovery in the areas of flavor, health, color and ripening
Ross N. Crowhurst,Andrew P. Gleave,Elspeth A. MacRae,Charles Ampomah-Dwamena,Ross G. Atkinson,Lesley L. Beuning,Sean Bulley,David Chagné,K.B. Marsh,Adam J. Matich,Mirco Montefiori,Richard D. Newcomb,Robert J. Schaffer,Björn Usadel,Andrew C. Allan,Helen L. Boldingh,Judith H. Bowen,Marcus Davy,Rheinhart Eckloff,A. Ross Ferguson,Lena G. Fraser,Emma Gera,Roger P. Hellens,Bart J. Janssen,Karin Klages,Kim R. Lo,Robin M. MacDiarmid,Bhawana Nain,Mark A McNeilage,Maysoon Rassam,Annette C. Richardson,Erik H. A. Rikkerink,G. J. S. Ross,Roswitha Schröder,Kimberley C. Snowden,Edwige J. F. Souleyre,Matthew D. Templeton,Eric F. Walton,Daisy Wang,Mindy Y. Wang,Yanming Y Wang,Marion Wood,Rongmei Wu,Yar-Khing Yauk,William A. Laing +44 more
TL;DR: In this article, a collection of 132,577 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were derived mainly from four Actinidia species (A. chinensis, A. arguta and A. eriantha) and fell into 41,858 non redundant clusters (18,070 tentative consensus sequences and 23,788 EST singletons).
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and characterisation of primary microRNAs from apple (Malus domestica cv. Royal Gala) expressed sequence tags
Andrew P. Gleave,Charles Ampomah-Dwamena,Susann Berthold,Supinya Dejnoprat,Sakuntala Karunairetnam,Bhawana Nain,Yen-Yi Wang,Ross N. Crowhurst,Robin M. MacDiarmid +8 more
TL;DR: Demonstrating cleavage of a number of the putative target transcripts within the region of miRNA/messenger RNA complementarity provided further evidence of the functionality of the identified Royal Gala miRNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expressed sequence tags from the midgut of Epiphyas postvittana (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)
Robert M. Simpson,Richard D. Newcomb,H.S. Gatehouse,R.N. Crowhurst,David Chagné,L. N. Gatehouse,Ngaire P. Markwick,Lesley L. Beuning,C. Murray,Sean D. G. Marshall,Yar-Khing Yauk,Bhawana Nain,Y.-Y. Wang,Andrew P. Gleave,John T. Christeller +14 more
TL;DR: The identity of the most common Interpro families correlates well with major known functions of the midgut and two of the larger multigene families, serine proteases and lipases, expressed a high proportion of genes that are likely to be catalytically inactive.
