Dusty starburst galaxies in the early Universe as revealed by gravitational lensing

Joaquin Vieira, +79 more
- 21 Mar 2013 -
TL;DR: A redshift survey at a wavelength of three millimetres, targeting carbon monoxide line emission from the star-forming molecular gas in the direction of extraordinarily bright millimetre-wave-selected sources, indicating that the fraction of dusty starburst galaxies at high redshifts is greater than previously thought.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nature of the [C II] emission in dusty star-forming galaxies from the SPT survey

TL;DR: In this article, the South Pole Telescope (SPT) survey was used to detect the [C] line in 17 sources, all but one being spectrally resolved, and they found that the line ratio can be best described by a medium of [C]- and CO emitting gas with a higher [C''i] than CO excitation temperature, high CO optical depth τ_CO(1−0) ≫ 1, and low to moderate [C´i] optical depths τ_[CII]≲ 1.
Journal ArticleDOI

ISM properties of a massive dusty star-forming galaxy discovered at z ∼ 7.

TL;DR: In this article, the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Bonn, Germany, has presented a method for the construction of the HST from the Space Telescope Science Institute (HSTI).
