TL;DR: A redshift survey at a wavelength of three millimetres, targeting carbon monoxide line emission from the star-forming molecular gas in the direction of extraordinarily bright millimetre-wave-selected sources, indicating that the fraction of dusty starburst galaxies at high redshifts is greater than previously thought.
Journal ArticleDOI
The nature of the [C II] emission in dusty star-forming galaxies from the SPT survey
Bitten Gullberg,C. De Breuck,Joaquin Vieira,Axel Weiß,James E. Aguirre,Manuel Aravena,Manuel Aravena,Matthieu Béthermin,Charles M. Bradford,Matt Bothwell,John E. Murphy,Christian L. Reichardt,J. S. Spilker,Antony A. Stark,M. Strandet,Niraj Welikala +27 more
TL;DR: In this article, the South Pole Telescope (SPT) survey was used to detect the [C] line in 17 sources, all but one being spectrally resolved, and they found that the line ratio can be best described by a medium of [C]- and CO emitting gas with a higher [C''i] than CO excitation temperature, high CO optical depth τ_CO(1−0) ≫ 1, and low to moderate [C´i] optical depths τ_[CII]≲ 1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marrone,Karl M. Menten,Eric J. Murphy,A. Nadolski,K. M. Rotermund,J. S. Spilker,Antony A. Stark,Niraj Welikala +30 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Cycle 1 to determine spectroscopic redshifts of high-redshift dusty star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) selected by their 1.4 mm continuum emission in the South Pole Telescope (SPT) survey.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Bonn, Germany, has presented a method for the construction of the HST from the Space Telescope Science Institute (HSTI).

TL;DR: In this paper, the physical properties of a large, homogeneously selected sample of ALMA-located sub-mm galaxies (SMGs) detected in the SCUBA-2 CLS 850-$\mu$m map of the UKIDSS/UDS field were analyzed.
