Journal ArticleDOI

Selective inhibition of BET bromodomains.

TL;DR: A cell-permeable small molecule (JQ1) that binds competitively to acetyl-lysine recognition motifs, or bromodomains is reported, establishing proof-of-concept for targeting protein–protein interactions of epigenetic ‘readers’, and providing a versatile chemical scaffold for the development of chemical probes more broadly throughout the b romodomain family.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcriptional activation triggers deposition and removal of the histone variant H3.3

TL;DR: It is concluded that H3.3 deposition is coupled to transcription, and continues while a gene is active, and repeated histone replacement suggests a mechanism to both maintain the structure of chromatin and access to DNA at active genes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coordination of Transcription, RNA Processing, and Surveillance by P-TEFb Kinase on Heat Shock Genes

TL;DR: Flavopiridol, a highly specific P-TEFb kinase inhibitor, dramatically reduces the global levels of Ser2--but not Ser5--phosphorylated CTD at actively transcribed loci on Drosophila polytene chromosomes under both normal and heat shocked conditions.
