Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term mortality after transsphenoidal surgery and adjunctive therapy for acromegaly

TL;DR: A retrospective review of patients who underwent transsphenoidal surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital between 1978 and 1996 suggests that the decreased survival previously reported to be associated with acromegaly can be normalized by successful surgical and adjunctive therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary tumors in the United States, 1996-2000: mortality, morbidity, and the effects of hospital and surgeon volume.

TL;DR: It is suggested that higher-volume hospitals and surgeons provide superior short-term outcomes after transsphenoidal pituitary tumor surgery with shorter lengths of stay and a trend toward lower charges.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term mortality after transsphenoidal surgery for Cushing disease.

TL;DR: Survival of patients treated for Cushing disease with current management techniques between 1978 and 1996 was better than the poor survival historically associated with this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of testosterone replacement in androgen-deficient women with hypopituitarism: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

TL;DR: The objective of the study was to determine whether physiologic testosterone replacement improves bone density, body composition, and/or neurobehavioral function in women with severe androgen deficiency secondary to hypopituitarism.
