Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Control of Trichinellosis
TL;DR: Evidence that the disease can be monitored and to some extent controlled with a rigorous reporting and testing system in place should be motivation to expand appropriate programs worldwide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human alveolar echinococcosis after fox population increase, Switzerland.
Alexander Schweiger,Rudolf W. Ammann,Daniel Candinas,Pierre-Alain Clavien,Johannes Eckert,Bruno Gottstein,Nerman Halkic,Beat Muellhaupt,Bettina Mareike Prinz,Juerg Reichen,Philip E. Tarr,Paul R. Torgerson,Peter Deplazes +12 more
TL;DR: An increase in fox population has led to an increase in incidence of human alveolar echinococcosis in Northern Ireland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii infection by PCR and DNA hybridization immunoassay.
TL;DR: Both PCR tests were optimized by including a DNA hybridization immunoassay based on the use of the commercially available Gen-eti-k DEIA kit that allowed highly sensitive and specific detection of respective DNA amplification products and thus substantially facilitated the reading and interpretation of the test results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neospora caninum: specific oligonucleotide primers for the detection of brain "cyst" DNA of experimentally infected nude mice by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
TL;DR: The results indicate that PCR with the primer pair Np21/Np6 could provide an efficient tool for large-scale epidemiological studies using brain tissue obtained at necropsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Redescription of Neospora caninum and its differentiation from related coccidia.

Trees,Arvid Uggla,Steve J. Upton,Diana L. Williams,David S. Lindsay +29 more
TL;DR: The authors redescribe the parasite, distinguish it from related coccidia, and provide accession numbers to its type specimens deposited in museums.
