Abstract: Two model constant‐frequency cyclotrons based on the principle of L. H. Thomas, as extended by David L. Judd, are described. Both accelerated electrons to speeds of half that of light in magnetic fields of three‐fold azimuthal periodicity. Three 60°‐wide wedge‐shaped electrodes, driven 120° out of phase, provided an energy gain per revolution of 3 eV0, where V0 is the peak electrode‐to‐ground voltage. Electrons were accelerated to 75 kv with V0=23 v, implying a minimum of one thousand revolutions in the cyclotron. The beam reached full energy without axial loss and it was demonstrated that essentially all of the circulating current will emerge from this type of accelerator without the use of additional deflecting systems. The success of this development program has shown the feasibility of a high‐current, high‐energy cyclotron based on the Thomas principle.

Abstract: The properties of infinitely dilute metal ammonia solutions are interpreted on the basis of Landau's model for electron binding by polarization of the dielectric medium. The electrons are bound in cavities of radius 3.2–3.45 A. The energy levels of the trapped electrons are computed by the variation method using one‐parameter wave functions. It is possible to obtain theoretical values for the heat of solution of the electron and the energy of the 1s→2p transition in agreement with experimental data.The susceptibility of the energy of the electronic transition to temperature cannot be interpreted by the temperature dependence of the dielectric constant only, and it is presumed that the electron cavity radius is temperature dependent.

Abstract: The experimental material on energy levels published from December 1, 1953 to February 1, 1957 is covered along with the 1954 energy level compilation STAP. M. Endt and J. C. Wuyver, Revs. Mod. Phys. 26, 95(1954)!. Little attention is given to cross-section measurements. Many particle reactions, as (n,2n) or spallation reactions, are omitted altogether. Theoretical papers are quoted only briefly. Numerous diagrams and tables and an extensive bibliography are given. (M.H.R.)

Abstract: The present invention is related to a superconducting or non-superconducting isochronous sector-focused cyclotron, comprising an electromagnet with an upper pole and a lower pole that constitute the magnetic circuit, the poles being made of at least three pairs of sectors (3, 4) called 'hills' where the vertical gap between said sectors is small, these hill-sectors being separated by sector-formed spaces called 'valleys' (5) where the vertical gap is large, said cyclotron being energised by at least one pair of main coils (6), characterised in that at least one pair of upper and lower hills is significantly longer than the remaining pairs of hill sectors in order to have at least one pair of extended hill sectors (3) and at least one pair of non-extended hill sectors (4) in that a groove (7) or a 'plateau' (7') which follows the shape of the extracted orbit is present in said pair of extended hill sectors (3) in order to produce a dip (200) in the magnetic field.

Abstract: Using the delta-shell representation we present a successful fit to neutron-proton and proton-proton scattering data below pion production threshold. A detailed overview of the theory necessary to calculate observables with this potential is presented. A new data selection process is used to obtain the largest mutually consistent data base. The analysis includes data within the years 1950 to 2013. Using 46 parameters we obtain chi^2/Ndata = 1.04 with Ndata = 6713 including normalization data. Phase shifts with error bars are provided.
