TL;DR: An introductory overview of the different functions covered by the DSM-CC standard is given and the basic reference model that underpinned the development of the standard is conveyed.
Abstract: Digital storage media-command and control (DSM-CC) is a very recent ISO/IEC standard developed for the delivery of multimedia broadband services. Open protocols in this area are essential for the widespread deployment of such services. Total interoperability between service providers and consumers will require many different aspects of broadband service delivery to be addressed. This article gives an introductory overview of the different functions covered by the DSM-CC standard. Its purpose is to convey the scope of the DSM-CC standard and the basic reference model that underpinned the development of the standard.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method and apparatus for identifying broadcast digital audio signals, where the digital audio signal is provided to a processing structure which is configured to identify a program-identifying code in the received digital signal, identifying a program identifying code in a decompressed received digital audio message, and identifying a feature signature in the decoded received digital message.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for identifying broadcast digital audio signals include structure and/or function whereby the digital audio signal is provided to processing structure which is configured to (i) identify a program-identifying code in the received digital audio signal, (ii) identify a program-identifying code in a decompressed received digital audio signal, (iii) identify a feature signature in the received digital audio signal, and (iv) identify a feature signature in the decompressed received digital audio signal. Preferably, such processing structure is disposed in a dwelling or a monitoring site in an audience measurement system, such as the Nielsen TV ratings system.

TL;DR: A control architecture that offers most standard advanced telephony features and integrates stored and conference multimedia and re-uses much of the "infrastructure" of HTTP, including its security and proxy mechanisms is described.
Abstract: The Internet and intranets have been used to deliver continuous media, both stored and live, for a number of years. Most of the attention has focused on providing guaranteed quality of service (RSVP) and end-to-end data transport (RTP), with every application using its own control protocol. The author describe a control architecture that offers most standard advanced telephony features and integrates stored and conference multimedia. The protocol re-uses much of the "infrastructure" of HTTP, including its security and proxy mechanisms. The architecture is instantiated by two related, but independent protocols: the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for inviting participants to a multimedia session and the Real-Time Stream Protocol (RTSP) to control playback and recording for stored continuous media.

TL;DR: In this paper, an example method to monitor reception of a broadcast program by a broadcast receiver located in a statistically selected site comprises retrieving an audience measurement data packet from the broadcast receiver in order to identify the broadcast program.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to monitor reception of programs and content by broadcast receivers are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein to monitor reception of a broadcast program by a broadcast receiver located in a statistically selected site comprises retrieving an audience measurement data packet from the broadcast receiver in order to identify the broadcast program, detecting a code embedded in the broadcast program in order to identify the broadcast program, extracting a signature from the broadcast program in order to identify the broadcast program, identifying the broadcast program through use of a software agent, and selecting at least one of the audience measurement data packet, the embedded code, the extracted signature or the software agent to identify the received program.

TL;DR: This paper presents architectural considerations, design issues and describes a prototypical implementation of a Video Conference Recording on Demand (VCRoD) service for the MBone, which is a clientserver based architecture for interactive remote recording and playback of MBone sessions.
Abstract: One of the most exciting technologies in today's Internet is the MBone. MBone stands for Multicast Backbone; it provides the infrastructure for efficient multipoint packet delivery in the Internet. The most popular scenario is worldwide audio-video conferencing. However, so far there are no satisfactory solutions available on how to archive multimedia data streams of multicast videoconferences, and how to make them accessible for remote sites (i.e. how to remotely record and remotely play back MBone conferences). In this paper we present architectural considerations, design issues and describe a prototypical implementation of a Video Conference Recording on Demand (VCRoD) service for the MBone. Our system is called MBone VCRoD Service (MVoD) and is a clientserver based architecture for interactive remote recording and playback of MBone sessions. MVoD is implemented based on open standards (e.g. CORBA), making it possible for other applications to interface it. Since the MVoD client application is implemented using JAVA, it will be possible to access the service from almost any platform.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for addressing at least one service in a data communication system, which comprises at least a data transmission network (6, 12a, 12b, 15a, 15b, 16, 17) for transmitting information in at least an MPEG data transmission stream (TS).
Abstract: Method for addressing at least one service in a data communication system comprises at least one data transmission network (6, 12a, 12b, 15a, 15b, 16, 17) for transmitting information in at least one preferably MPEG data transmission stream (TS). In the method one or several service_providers transmits services to one or several data transmission networks (6, 12a, 12b, 15a, 15b, 16, 17). The service is assigned an identification (original_ network_id, transport_stream_id, service_id), wherein on basis of the identification (original_network_id, transport_stream_id, service_id), it is possible to retrieve the data transmission stream (TS) to be used and the location in the data transmission stream (TS). The service is assigned an identifying name (service_provider_name, service_name) and a relation between the name information and the identification data, wherein on the basis of the name information (service_provider_name, service_name) and the relation, it is possible to retrieve the service identification.
