Giant Magnetic Anisotropy of Single Cobalt Atoms and Nanoparticles
Pietro Gambardella,Stefano Rusponi,M. Veronese,Sarnjeet S. Dhesi,C. Grazioli,A. Dallmeyer,Iván Cabria,Rudolf Zeller,Peter H. Dederichs,Klaus Kern,Carlo Carbone,Harald Brune +11 more
TL;DR: The isotropic magnetic moment of a free atom is shown to develop giant magnetic anisotropy energy due to symmetry reduction at an atomically ordered surface and the results confirm theoretical predictions and are of fundamental value to understanding how magnetic an isotropy develops in finite-sized magnetic particles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localized magnetic states of Fe, Co, and Ni impurities on alkali metal films.
Pietro Gambardella,Sarnjeet S. Dhesi,S. Gardonio,C. Grazioli,Philippe Ohresser,Carlo Carbone +5 more
TL;DR: The results show that the high magnetic moments of transition metals in alkali hosts originate from electron localization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic linear dichroism studies of in situ grown NiO thin films
S. R. Krishnakumar,Marco Liberati,C. Grazioli,M. Veronese,Stefano Turchini,Paola Luches,Sergio Valeri,Carmelita Carbone +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, thickness dependence of magnetic linear dichroism (MLD) of in situ grown NiO(0,0,1) films on Ag(0,0,1) substrate at the Ni L2 absorption edge was reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Probing the ground state electronic structure of a correlated electron system by quantum well states: Ag/Ni(111).
Andrei Varykhalov,Alexander M. Shikin,W. Gudat,Paolo Moras,C. Grazioli,Carmelita Carbone,Oliver Rader +6 more
TL;DR: The model description of the quantum-well energies measured by angle-resolved photoemission determines the bottom of the empty set 1 d band of Ni as 2.6 eV, in full agreement with standard local density theory and at variance with the values of 1.7-1.8 eV from direct angle- Resolved Photoelectron spectroscopy experiments of Ni.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surface characterization of Mn(x)Ge(1−x) and Cr(y)Mn(x)Ge(1−x−y) dilute magnetic semiconductors
Pietro Gambardella,L. Claude,Stefano Rusponi,K. Franke,Harald Brune,J. Raabe,Frithjof Nolting,Peter Bencok,Aubrey T. Hanbicki,B. T. Jonker,C. Grazioli,M. Veronese,Carlo Carbone +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used X-ray photoemission electron microscopy (XPEEM) and x-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize MnxGe1-x and CryMnxGe 1-x-y films grown by molecular beam epitaxy.
