Characterization of air–sea exchanges over the Western Mediterranean Sea during HyMeX SOP1 using the AROME–WMED model

TL;DR: In this article, a HymeX-dedicated version of Application de la Recherche a l'Operationnel a Meso-Echelle, in French (AROME) covering the whole western Mediterranean basin, named AROME-WMED, was evaluated through comparisons against moored buoys, drifting buoys and ship measurements deployed during the HyMeX campaign, showing some areas of strong air-sea fluxes in the Gulf of Lion and the Balearic, Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Two-way one-dimensional high-resolution air-sea coupled modelling applied to Mediterranean heavy rain events

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-resolution air-sea coupled system is developed between the atmospheric MESO-NH model and a one-dimensional ocean model to examine how the severe atmospheric conditions over the sea associated with these events alter the ocean mixed layer, and what feedback the ocean contributes to the precipitation events.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-resolution air–sea coupling impact on two heavy precipitation events in the Western Mediterranean

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the impact of fine-scale air-sea interactions and coupled processes involved during the heavy precipitation events (HPEs) which occurred during the 12 to 15 October 2012 (IOP13) and 26 to 28 October 2012(IOP16a/b) of the HyMeX first field campaign.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of the sea state on Mediterranean heavy precipitation: a case‐study from HyMeX SOP1

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of a more realistic representation of the waves on heavy precipitation during the Intense Observation Period (IOP) 16a of the first HyMeX Special Observation period (SOP1) was investigated.
