A blueprint for blue carbon: toward an improved understanding of the role of vegetated coastal habitats in sequestering CO2
Elizabeth Mcleod,Gail L. Chmura,Steven Bouillon,Rodney Salm,Mats Björk,Carlos M. Duarte,Carlos M. Duarte,Catherine E. Lovelock,William H. Schlesinger,Brian R. Silliman +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify key areas of uncertainty and specific actions needed to address them and identify the value of mangrove forests, seagrass beds, and salt marshes in sequestering carbon dioxide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Australian vegetated coastal ecosystems as global hotspots for climate change mitigation
Oscar Serrano,Catherine E. Lovelock,Trisha B. Atwood,Trisha B. Atwood,Peter I. Macreadie,Robert Franklin C Canto,Stuart R. Phinn,Ariane Arias-Ortiz,Le Bai,Jeff Baldock,Camila Bedulli,Camila Bedulli,Paul E. Carnell,Rod M. Connolly,Paul Donaldson,Alba Esteban,Carolyn J. Ewers Lewis,Bradley D. Eyre,Matthew A. Sanders,Isaac R. Santos,C Sharples,Andrew D. L. Steven,Toni Cannard,Stacey M. Trevathan-Tackett,Carlos M. Duarte,Carlos M. Duarte +57 more
TL;DR: This assessment, the most comprehensive for any nation to-date, demonstrates the potential of conservation and restoration of VCE to underpin national policy development for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opportunities for improving phosphorus-use efficiency in crop plants.
Erik J. Veneklaas,Hans Lambers,Jason G. Bragg,Patrick M. Finnegan,Catherine E. Lovelock,William C. Plaxton,Charles A. Price,Wolf-Ruediger Scheible,Michael W. Shane,Philip J. White,John A. Raven,John A. Raven +11 more
TL;DR: Improved P-use efficiency can be achieved by plants that have overall lower P concentrations, and by optimal distribution and redistribution of P in the plant allowing maximum growth and biomass allocation to harvestable plant parts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental drivers in mangrove establishment and early development: A review
Ken W. Krauss,Catherine E. Lovelock,Karen L. McKee,Laura López-Hoffman,Sharon M.L. Ewe,Wayne P. Sousa +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the mangrove literature focusing on eco-physiological and growth constraints to the establishment and early development of seedlings in the intertidal zone is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
The vulnerability of Indo-Pacific mangrove forests to sea-level rise
Catherine E. Lovelock,Donald R. Cahoon,Daniel A. Friess,Glenn R. Guntenspergen,Ken W. Krauss,Ruth Reef,Ruth Reef,Kerrylee Rogers,Megan L. Saunders,Frida Sidik,Andrew Swales,Andrew Swales,Neil Saintilan,Le Xuan Thuyen,Tran Triet +14 more
TL;DR: It is found that sediment availability can enable mangrove forests to maintain rates of soil-surface elevation gain that match or exceed that of sea-level rise, but for 69 per cent of the study sites the current rate of sea level rise exceeded the soil surface elevation gain.
