TL;DR: In this article, the design of an unknown input observer for anaerobic wastewater treatment plants is studied, based on a nonlinear state space model, where an observable subsystem is used to estimate, from available on-line measurements, the state and the unmeasured inputs.

Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of fault (or disturbance) decoupling in nonlinear systems. A new method is proposed to increase dimension of state subspace which is insensitive to fault (or disturbance). This method is based on a nonlinear filter defined by means of the generalized output injection. An example is presented which illustrates results.

TL;DR: In this article, nonlinear filters are used for fault detection and isolation in a nonlinear filter bank, based on the assumption that faults do not occur simultaneously and the main result is the proposition of a systematic method for filters bank design in order to isolate all faults.
