TL;DR: In this article, a systematic method that ensures the synthesis of asymptotic nonlinear filters for residual generation is proposed for fault detection and isolation in a nonlinear framework is addressed.
Abstract: The problem of fault detection and isolation in a nonlinear framework is addressed. A systematic method that ensures the synthesis of asymptotic nonlinear filters is proposed for residual generation. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, each theoretical step is illustrated by means of simulations. The example of a three-tank system is then experimentally considered to verify the validity of our approach.

TL;DR: In this paper, a closed-loop fault-tolerant control for uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed based on algebraic estimation of the derivatives of a time signal, which yields good estimates of the unknown parameters and of the residuals.
Abstract: We are designing, perhaps for the first time, closed-loop fault-tolerant control for uncertain nonlinear systems. Our solution is based on a new algebraic estimation technique of the derivatives of a time signal, which • yields good estimates of the unknown parameters and of the residuals, i.e., of the fault indicators, • is easily implementable in real time, • is robust with respect to a large variety of noises, without any necessity of knowing their statistical properties. Convincing numerical simulations are provided via a popular case-study in the diagnosis community, namely the three-tank system, which may be characterized as a flat hybrid system.

TL;DR: Recent techniques for estimating derivatives of noisy transient signals are extended to the multidimensional case, i.e., to image and video processing.
Abstract: Recent techniques for estimating derivatives of noisy transient signals are extended to the multidimensional case, i.e., to image and video processing. Numerical simulations are provided for noise removal and edge detection.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deal with the problem of fault detection and isolation and recall the existence conditions of a solution to this problem before the proposal of another solution, and the proof carrying out the effectiveness of the proposed solution and illustrative examples are the main results.
