Expression of Nrf2 in Neurodegenerative Diseases
Chenere P. Ramsey,Charles A. Glass,Marshall B. Montgomery,Kathryn A. Lindl,Gillian P. Ritson,Luis A. Chia,Ronald L. Hamilton,Charleen T. Chu,Kelly L. Jordan-Sciutto +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that Nrf2-mediated transcription is not induced in neurons in AD despite the presence of oxidative stress, and in PD, nuclear localization of NRF2 is strongly induced, but this response may be insufficient to protect neurons from degeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced posterior nasal cavity volume: a gender-specific neurodevelopmental abnormality in schizophrenia.
Bruce I. Turetsky,Charles A. Glass,Jaime Abbazia,Christian G. Kohler,Raquel E. Gur,Paul J. Moberg +5 more
TL;DR: Posterior nasal cavity volume decrement appears to be a specific developmental craniofacial abnormality that may reflect an early disruption in embryological development in males with schizophrenia, and may be a marker of a "second hit" that distinguishes genetically vulnerable men who go on to develop the illness from those who do not.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiplex genome editing of mammalian cells for producing recombinant heparin.
Bryan E. Thacker,Kristen J. Thorne,Colin Cartwright,Jee-Min Park,Kimberly Glass,Benjamin P. Kellman,Nathan E. Lewis,Zhenping Wang,Anna Di Nardo,Susan T. Sharfstein,Walter Jeske,Jeanine M. Walenga,John Hogwood,Elaine Gray,Barbara Mulloy,Jeffrey D. Esko,Charles A. Glass +16 more
TL;DR: Using gene expression profiling of mast cells as a guide, a multiplex genome engineering strategy was devised to produce heparan sulfate with high anticoagulant potency and to eliminate contaminating chondroitin sulfate from mastocytoma cells as discussed by the authors .
Journal ArticleDOI
Biologically Derived Neoproteoglycans for Profiling Protein-Glycosaminoglycan Interactions.
Ryan N. Porell,Julianna L Follmar,Sean C. Purcell,Bryce M. Timm,Logan K. Laubach,David Kozirovskiy,Bryan E. Thacker,Charles A. Glass,Philip L.S.M. Gordts,Kamil Godula +9 more
TL;DR: An efficient and tunable strategy to mimic cellular proteoglycan architectures by conjugating biologically derived GAG chains to a protein scaffold, defined as neoproteoglycans (neoPGs), with real-time monitoring of the conjugation reaction efficiency and tuning of the neoPG valency is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired mitophagy in Sanfilippo a mice causes hypertriglyceridemia and brown adipose tissue activation
Miguel Tillo,William C. Lamanna,Chrissa A. Dwyer,Daniella Sandoval,Ariane Pessentheiner,Norah Al-Azzam,Stéphane Sarrazin,Jon C. Gonzales,Shih-hsin Kan,Alexander Y. Andreyev,Nicholas Charles Schultheis,Bryan E. Thacker,Charles A. Glass,Patricia I. Dickson,Raymond Y. Wang,Scott B. Selleck,Jeffrey D. Esko,Philip L.S.M. Gordts +17 more
TL;DR: In this article , the impact of sulfamidase deficiency and heparan sulfate storage on energy homeostasis and metabolism in a mouse model of type IIIa mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS IIIa, Sanfilippo A syndrome).
