Tjoelker,Erik J. Veneklaas,Rafael Villar +33 more
TL;DR: Reliable quantification of the leaf economics spectrum and its interaction with climate will prove valuable for modelling nutrient fluxes and vegetation boundaries under changing land-use and climate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of leaf economic traits and trait relationships by climate
Ian J. Wright,Peter B. Reich,Johannes H. C. Cornelissen,Daniel S. Falster,Philip K. Groom,Kouki Hikosaka,William G. Lee,Christopher H. Lusk,Ülo Niinemets,Jacek Oleksyn,Jacek Oleksyn,Noriyuki Osada,Noriyuki Osada,Hendrik Poorter,David I. Warton,Mark Westoby +15 more
TL;DR: To quantify climatic influences on key leaf traits and relationships at the global scale provides insight into how plants have adapted to different environmental pressures, and will lead to better calibration of future vegetation‐climate models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitivity of leaf size and shape to climate: Global patterns and paleoclimatic applications
Daniel J. Peppe,Daniel J. Peppe,Dana L. Royer,Bárbara Cariglino,Sofia Y. Oliver,S. A. Newman,Elias Leight,Grisha Enikolopov,Margo Fernandez‐Burgos,Fabiany Herrera,Jonathan M. Adams,Edwin Correa,Ellen D. Currano,J. Mark Erickson,Luis Felipe Hinojosa,John W. Hoganson,Ari Iglesias,Carlos Jaramillo,Kirk R. Johnson,Gregory J. Jordan,Nathan J. B. Kraft,Elizabeth C. Lovelock,Christopher H. Lusk,Ülo Niinemets,Josep Peñuelas,G. L. Rapson,Scott L. Wing,Ian J. Wright +27 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the inclusion of additional leaf traits that are functionally linked to climate improves paleoclimate reconstructions and illustrates the need for better understanding of the impact of phylogeny and leaf habit on leaf-climate relationships.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global variability in leaf respiration in relation to climate, plant functional types and leaf traits

Wythers,Jen Xiang,Shuang Xiang,Shuang Xiang,Joana Zaragoza-Castells,Joana Zaragoza-Castells +78 more
TL;DR: A new global database of Rdark and associated leaf traits is analyzed and values at any given Vcmax or leaf nitrogen concentration were higher in herbs than in woody plants, and variation in Rdark among species and across global gradients in T and aridity is highlighted.
